This is a pretty good soldering iron, especially for the price. I have had one for several years, and still use it occasionally even though I have moved on to a better one. This is still a good deal especially for someone that is an occasional user. $15 for a variable temperature soldering station.

$6.95 shipping is actually pretty cheap, especially if your buying some other items with it. Even at $22 shipped, it's still a good value IMO.

Hakko tips won't work, but PE sells a 4pack of tips (all different) for $4.95 which is less than 1 Hakko tip. I got a lot of soldering done before needing a replacement tip.

I'd skip up to the TS100. It's $50 but it's competitive with $500 irons.

I've owned the unit for several years and still haven't used one of the extra tips I bought.

I use different tips depending on what I'm doing.  Large tips work better for cables and connectors where you need more heat.  Changing the tip can work better than cranking the heat up when you are soldering something with a large mass.  Or sometimes I do both.

Small tips for surface mount work, where you need to be precise.

True. I guess everything I've done to date has been 12g or smaller, so the small tip has been fine.

Amazon search. The needle tip I am told is too small. The C1 tip is a good size. Lots on eBay.

Some come with a PSU but they're crappy. You can get a better PSU at any thrift store that wads up laptop power supplies. Look for one with a safety ground. 24v and over 2.7a+. The stock one sparks for some reason, that's bad (can kill a transistor). Two prong PSU's may be better because there wouldn't be a ground connection. You can basically check them with a multimeter to see if the ground on the PSU to the plug end are connected like an open wire.

Either make the cord more flexible, or make the base unit heavier.

I purchased the same gun on sale for the $15 .00 price. It works fine for the crossover building I was doing.

I don't know how you could get a better price for an iron this good.
