Waking up from a 30 year absence should be entertaining. First off, you've already noticed that the internet is a major force in audio (formally known as stereo). Secondly, most brick and mortar stores and hardcopy magazines are gone (thus the internet influence). Vinyl almost died, but has made a comeback at the higher end. Speakers make tighter (but more constipated) bass. CD's are almost gone, replaced with digital downloads onto computer based music servers (your PC can act as a server) and at the higher end hi-resolution formats. And tube amps have made a comeback.
