Hello All, My name is Derek and I'm coming out of audio retirement. Mothballed my system in the 80's. My things have changed since waiting for my monthly editions of Audio Amateur and Speaker Builder to arrive. Hope to learn a lot from the individual and industry members and maybe do a transaction or two via the Audio Circle. Time to modernize my system.

Regards, Derek

Welcome.  You'll need at least 3 postings before you can participate on the Trading Circle.

Waking up from a 30 year absence should be entertaining.  First off, you've already noticed that the internet is a major force in audio (formally known as stereo).  Secondly, most brick and mortar stores and hardcopy magazines are gone (thus the internet influence).  Vinyl almost died, but has made a comeback at the higher end.  Speakers make tighter (but more constipated) bass.  CD's are almost gone, replaced with digital downloads onto computer based music servers (your PC can act as a server) and at the higher end hi-resolution formats.  And tube amps have made a comeback.  That's a quick overview of what you've missed.  Have fun.

Welcome to the sweet spot.

Great summary, JLM. I would add portable audio and streaming to your list.

I just joined myself after a 20-year break--hope you enjoy your return to audio as much I have and that you're returning to it with better hearing. (I gave my young ears to junior high trumpet sections years ago!)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Since I was into tubes & vinyl and t &v  made a comeback and I intend to modernize & but stick to t&v, I guess I should feel like I hit the fast forward button and skipped the cd part, though I have cds for my car.
