I always drive older luxury vehicles that I purchase when original owners want to give up. Currently I drive an 11 year old XJ8-L. This thing is practically worthless now on the used market according to KBB and the like, so I just plan to enjoy it until it starts costing too much to maintain. Despite their rep for being fussy, which I read about for years too, mine has been relatively pain-free (touch wood) over the years other than routine maintenance, though as noted, the Jag air suspension system has some issues, so I did have that replaced by an after-market option from specialist jag shop here (not the main dealer who is to be avoided). Mine now has a few bumps and bruises (these big bodies seem to be a magnet for other car doors in lots etc but the engine makes it a joy to drive still, and even with age, she catches the eye when cleaned up. In comparison with the other cars I've owned through this buying philosophy, only a Lexus has been more reliable, and none have been as much fun to drive.
