I'm still fairly broke (new job, etc) but I'll have to splurge for this one!   Only 2 weeks now!  This time I didn't even bother to buy the standard version, so superior have the extended versions of the other two been (at least to me).

Rob I'm with you. I havent' bought any of the standard versions, waited for the extended on all of them.  Glad I did! Have you heard how much this one is going to cost us?

I think its $24.99 at Buy.com pre-order.  They are kinda cool w /the pre-orders since they send the movie out before the release date so you have it on (or sometimes before) the release date (12/14/04 in this case).  Worked good for the latest Harry Potter.

This is the first LOR movie that I didn't get suckered into buying the regular version AND the extended version.  I'm chomping at the bit for the Extended version though...

Without a doubt, one of the rare post releases that truly live up to their hype.  Collegue(big Tolkien fan) at work, just after the Two Towers extended was released, mentioned over morning coffee about certain missing story threads in the movies.  Told him about the extended version additional threads....he picked them up and was shocked at the difference .  DTS doesn't hurt either  8)

Wow...I didn't know there were differences. Glad I found this thread, except for the $80 and ten hours I'm going to be out now... :)

I 'll probably buy my copy at Wal Mart ($23.88 ). They usually have good price for new releases for the first  weeks.

I'm stoked - it'll be the first time we get to see the REAL movie!  :P  Linear worsening of Tolkien-faithfulness on this series, ahh but what the hey it's still fun. ROTK will definitely benefit the most from the DVD un-fucking process as it suffered the most from Jacksons "baggage" and "junk" if I may say so.

I hear that on the EE Gollum will not only fall into lava, but will perform a water ballet routine in it while singing a song.  Should be killer...

Anyone know if they're coming out with a boxed set of all extended additions?  I didn't buy the third, bought the second in non-extended, and bought both versions of the first, so I want the extended of all three.

Thanks.  Now, I must ask myself if I spend less than $60 to get LOTR II and III or just pay $78 for the whole set.
