Wouldn't it be nice if we could all know the future so that any decision we ever made would be set in stone. However, digital technology keeps changing faster than what we can ever know, so that when a manufacturer says something and means it, it does not mean it will come to pass, nor that it would be the best thing for his customers.....
Dacs are increasingly becoming obsolete (in my opinion) and the ones that will survive, will be the ones that are trully bargains, wild tubed jobbies, or Universal types.....All cheaper receivers and integrated amps have built-in DACs. This leaves only the 2 channel audiophile that MAY want one...
It became clear to me that a modified one box player could be made to sound better than most DACs, so that my customers would be better served by modded players than by trying to make a continuously evolving and upgradable DAC.
I decided to stop upgrading the $625 Millennium I to a $1050 Millennium II because it did not make sense to me nor to most of my other customers....You were the only one who wanted it upgraded after I had decided not to, the only one (that I know about)....After you posted your dismay on the web, I decided that I would upgrade yours (hey I never want anyone to be unhappy) and a few others, since I had the parts for about 6 upgrades here. However, it appeared to me that you then decided that I was no longer worthy of your business, so you did not take me up on my offer and the fact remains that no one else thereafter wanted the upgrade, no one. So, I never upgraded another DAC, even after the anouncement that I would do a few.
Some of us hold on to the past. I hope you can let it go.
I wish you well.
