« on: 19 Dec 2016, 06:31 pm »
Hi guys!

I feel its slighty varm sounding....in my system.

What i understand ill get slightly "brighter" sound
Whit the st-10?

What more? Does it have better dynamics and control
Than the sta-9 too?

Im using dynaudio excite speakers.

Hi Mik -

Happy Holidays. One of their amps that I own is the multichannel 38. It leans cool. I find this exceptional on the bottom end. I have planar and ribbons on my speakers on the top end. I've heard several amps with them including the 38, ST-9 and another amp under development from another company. I also have a dealer that loves tubes.

From my experience I LOVE the 38 on the bottom in 400 watt config. The dynamics, detail and control are exceptional. This is where it gets weird. With a speaker with reference upper end that is very neutral - you can REALLY hear the difference between the amps. While the 38 is great, it can border on analytical to me. The unnamed amp was very rich and had a lower bloom to it - not really accurate, although quite fun. I'm a fan of the ST-9. It's accurate to the warm side of neutral. You can refer to the NuPrime threat. Jason explained the circuitry on his thread which has a long conversation about the circuits between his amps.

I think the best thing you can do is A/B with the ST-10. You should be able to hear the difference right away. Mind you I had developed two final crossovers for my speaker - both sounded great with subtle differences. One was somewhat luscious while the other was deadly accurate. In the end I chose the latter.

Best I can say is try to have fun and don't pull your hair out  :D

Please refer to http://www.nuprimeaudio.com/index.php/guides/learning/amp-comparison.html

ST-10 is not brighter than STA-9, that's the incorrect way to describe.  ST-10 is neutral.

Merry X-mas, Mik.

I suspect you'll find the ST-10 to be a good addition to your system.  Enjoy!

Merry xmas :)

Does the trigger in on the st10 work with any preamp ,and regular 3,5mm cable, to power on the unit?

Yes. It uses a 12v trigger. One oddity is that it requires a stereo 3.5 mm plug for some reason. A mono cable/plug will not work.

Mik,

I finally got off my butt and asked John Casler to send me an ST-10 amp.

Now, if he'll just wake up and immediately check his email...

No worries opnly

Yeah i like the st10 because its more neutral...i really get a crisp sound and the mids are clearer than with the sta9. Bottom end is very nice too.
Dont get me wrong, sta9 still is very good, but not really for me.

Well, the chart surely givs a hint of the sound characteristics of the amps. If u read it correct :)

Now all this talk makes me want to try out an ST-10 compared to the pair of STA-9s that I currently have!

Nonsense! The proper step would be get a MCH-K38 set up in bridged bi-amping configuration...

One of the three or four reasons I delayed making my decision to buy the ST-10 was that I spent an ungodly amount of time debating myself on my 'need' for a K38 or another amp. In the end, 'recommended' budget pushed me to the ST-10. I know my D. Sachs preamp will sound stunning paired to this.

This is my Christmas present to me!  :)

Mike

I think you will really like the ST-10 as it will better situated to your needs and situation.  And since neutral in character won't cause you to have to discount any type of speaker.  One thing you might have to look into depending on the gain in Don's preamps are the Rothwell Attenuators.  The ST-10 has a very low input sensitivity of .75 volts. Works with the DAC-10 or W4S STP-SE on it's own but does need the attenuators with the Modwright LS-100 with a gain of 13 db.  Enjoy.
