K&K 12P17L Linestage
« on: 24 Nov 2016, 07:00 pm »
After completing the 6C33C PSE monoblocs in January, I built a K&K 12P17L linestage. This linestage will be available as a kit from Kevin soon. The 12P17L tube is the indirectly heated pentode brother of the directly heated 4P1L. Originally the linestage was going to use the 4P1L but the 12P17L uses a simpler circuit and still has great sonics. Since my build, a different circuit board set-up is offered that consolidates several circuit boards into one. Chassis is mesquite with .125" aluminum plate. Components are mounted on a mid-plate that allows access to both sides of the circuit boards when the top and bottom plated are removed. Hook-up wire is fine silver, 20 ga. for the power supply and 22 ga. for the circuit path. The 12P17L has an aluminum shield from the Svetlana factory that I removed with a tubing cutter. Tube base was reattached using RTV silicon. My previous linestage was the Ultrapath that was refined over a number of years in collaboration with Pete Fowler.
The 12P17L linestage is a good match with the 6C33C monoblocs. Soundstage has great depth and width with detail and timbre that's very engaging.
