Except in that scenario it wouldn't likely be in "near pristine" condition, but more likely "thrown", "dropped", "bounced" or "rolled" condition!
Not necessarily, my sister threw out her Sansui system because it was old... Yesterday my neighbor put his BBQ by the curb, I asked him is there anything wrong with it? He said no, it works perfectly fine. I asked him why was he throwing it out. He said the wife wants a new one.
There's a hole in the back - from just below the bottom shelf to almost the top. That's why the amp is on that lower shelf so the heat can escape upward. It's actually the tube DAC that gets hotter.
Not quite sure why people put stuff like this nice rack out on the street (with a free sign on it) but I'll take it! (My first stereo cabinet - they've always sat on top of a table.)
There's pictures of stereo's in Playboy?
Don't know but for some, this sort of rack does not fit the contemporary decor that many other stereo collectors crave, it seems as if skeleton racks are all in but anything wood, enclosed, is out. It might have made the owner think about stereo racks of the 70s and 80s. I wonder what sort of components did the actual owner had on those? An Akai or Pioneer stack? That would have been a sight to be seen! PS: To be honest with you, this sort of rack reminds me of full page stereo ads in magazines such as Playboy and the like from the 80s. Not something bad per se.
