GISO – Isolator
For galvanic isolation of network connections in digital audio
High-frequency interference from computer peripherals, the electric grid and the high-frequency components of digital audio signals can negatively influence sensitive analog audio signals and thus significantly disrupt listening enjoyment. Therefore, devices which serve as a "bridge" between the analog and digital world (AD or DA converters) have always been special components which are recommended (AES) or even obligatory (EBU) in the standardisation guidelines of the professional studio industry; so-called transformers - small hardware elements, which transfer a signal in a purely inductive manner without a physical connection to the conductor - prevent or at least decrease these disruptive influences.
ACOUSENCE now has years of experience in high-resolution digital recording formats as almost no other music production company does. Over the years, this has led to a number of in-house innovations which we use for our own productions: devices which better shield sensitive analog audio electronics from disruptive high-frequency, digital source components and which improve the signal quality of the transfer cables between digital sources and converter units (e.g. Jitter). Both are achieved by employing simply the very best transformers which are specially designed for this process.
The considerable qualitative gain through the use of these units moved us to test the technology on personal hi-fi equipment as well. Because when dealing with streamers, for example, network connections link the digital to the analog world more and more often. The synchronicity aspect (Jitter) plays no role here per se. But since computers and the entire EDP environment and network peripherals as a rule contain great potential for disruption, a consistent shield against these disruptive signals is even more important.
In listening tests, the use of GISO - quasi as a cable adapter in front of the end device where the analog audio playback takes place - has shown to produce a significant improvement. It should also be mentioned, however, that due to differing set-ups, the extent of the improvement may vary and thus all users should test the device on their own equipment before making a decision to buy. In our tests, the analog audio gained significant clarity, nuances and as a result musicality. Only the extent of the improvement varied. So test it for yourself!
GISO has two functionality options for any given physical set-up.
GISO is generally equipped with two RJ45 standard network outlets as NEUTRIK-ETHERCON connectors. All standard network cables can plug in to these outlets. For better cable anchorage, cables with solid ETHERCON outlets can also be used. Suitable RJ45 to RJ45 ETHERCON adapter cables are available from us.
GISO DS
To be used in hi-fi equipment when connected to a streamer.
Streamers are usually equipped with 100Base-TX network connections to RJ-45 ports (currently, this is always the case). Because even for the highest resolution of 24/192, the speed of this standard is more than sufficient. Therefore, according to the relevant standard, GISO DS only has contacts with two of the four connection pairs of a CAT5 or CAT6 cable equipped with a transformer. (There is no extra benefit in using GISO GB for this application. Therefore, only use GISO DS.)
GISO GB
To be used in professional "Audio over IP" solutions
There is a trend in professional audio industry today to replace conventional digital audio connections with flexible network structures. As a result, there are now end devices available with a high number of individual channels and high sampling rates. The full gigbit speed will then be necessary with the corresponding high data rate (1000Base-T). Therefore, in GISO GB, all four connection pairs of a CAT5 or CAT6 cable are contacted via a transformer.
