Speaker stands?
« on: 11 Apr 2016, 09:57 pm »
Hello,

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I posted here.

I am trying to find some speaker stands around 28" high.  I have been searching the net, but haven't really found a ton of options.

Please recommend any good sites for stands that you may know about.

Thanks.

May I ask why you want 28"stands?  Your speakers would normally mate well with 24"stands, unless you've moved on from the SF's.

Audioadvisor has a number of options of different height.

I just ordered a pair of Selah's new Transparente's and Rick feels that a 28" stand would be ideal.  The SF's are actually on 28" stands. Based on how well they match the speakers, I never questioned the height.

Why would you suggest 24"?  I would actually prefer 24" from an aesthetic point of view, but I am more concerned about having the correct height.

Far be it from me to veto the manufacturer's recommendation, but the rule of thumb is to have the tweeter at ear level.  I assume it's one of the Parts Express cabinets he modifies, which I would use a 24" stand with unless I had a good explanation from the builder.  Not saying there isn't a good reason, just that I'd like to hear it.  Is there some reason you can't use the 28" stands you presently have?  Or perhaps buy another set of the same ones?

I will most likely sell the stands that I have with the speakers.  They match well, (wood) and I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't like them. :?

As far as the height is concerned, I'm pretty sure that 24" would put them below ear level.  That is why he recommended 26-30 inches.

When I went hunting for stands for my Daedalus Pan's I did some measuring of my head in my current seating.  I am sure there is a fair difference in everybody's preferred thrown/Barko lounger.

And not long after we swapped some furniture if the front room which is where I have toe set up.  I ended up adding 1.75 inches to the current stands and the alignment was back to my proper height.

I would think the seating part of the equitation is a more important part of the equation.

Just my twist on the issue :?

That makes perfect sense Firejedi, if that's your combination of seating and height above the waist you've got it right.  Which leads into agreeing with Alan, the seating does make a difference.  I suppose that I have average height everything, 24" stands have always been perfect even with smallish speakers.

Back to the op's original question, there are some just okay ones on sale at Parts Express:

Well,
I suppose I should wait until next week, as we are getting a new couch in that room.  It may not be the same I height, so if I really want to be safe, I should wait.

Thats not a problem since the speakers are a few weeks out.

Thanks.
