Getting started
« on: 23 Mar 2016, 07:08 am »
Hello All
I have always been intrigued by great sound but like most budget always stands in the way of our dreams.  Hoping to get advice from fellow AC members. upgrades, tweaks etc..

Welcome!

Check out the Cheap and Cheerful circle for sub $1000 USD system ideas.

After 40 years I've never seen a better time for frugalphiles.  For instance:

- Use Spotify ($10/month for 320 kps) or Tidal ($20/month for CD quality) access to millions of songs
- Use your computer as a music server
- Tons of good/cheap DAC's starting at $100 USD and improving quickly so don't over invest
- Several active speaker available that include amps, check out Emotiva 4S ($299 USD/pair)

- If space/budget is even tighter look into Audioengine 2A+ powered speakers/DAC ($250 USD/pair)

I am having a hard time getting in touch with Klaus at Odyssey. My candela pre-amp's right channel is making what I can only describe as white noise that is quite audible. Wondering if it could be a faulty tube or if anyone has experienced the same or better still if you read this post Klaus can you msg me.
Regards,
Darcy

Have you swapped the tube locations to see if the noise follows the tube, i.e. noise now from the left channel? If not, you should.  :thumb:
