It definitely is. It was hard not to post when the first two where "those Google maps always screw up so driverless cars will be bad". "I've been driving my whole life so that's what's good".

If you've ever been around software, you know it has errors.  Basically, any code over a few lines long can't be tested adequately.  Will it be better than the way people drive now?  It's difficult to tell.  Will it be able to be programmed so that the car can make it up a small/steep hill in snow with a car with snow tires on it?  Will it have the ability to turn off traction control, put the car in the correct gear, and hit the gas to ensure that the car makes it up the hill?  It's unknown.

Personally, I'm likely going to buy a new car relatively soon.  The car I buy might be -- OMG! -- a standard.  The first two cars I bought were standards and my third car is an automatic.  They both have benefits and detriments, but sometimes it's fun to downshift, make it through a turn and upshift, maybe with a little rear end kick out. I doubt a driverless car will do that.

Another thing I'm concerned about is they'll know (whoever "they" are) where you are at all times.  They already know some of this, if you have a smartphone, but now they'll know where the entire family is, who is in the car, etc.  I'm getting tired of being tracked, and the car is one more way they can track you.

Saw the title to this thread & thought "Hmmm.... This sounds like another Obama idea !"

(I never realized that someone who was so articulate could seemingly have so many thought deficient ideas)

This is an Obama thing? What do you mean by "so articulate"?

Sorry folks, maybe not too soon but they'll be really good at driverless cars in the future.

Look at where Boston Dynamics and Google are with robots.
