Capacitor upgrade question
« on: 2 Mar 2016, 03:02 pm »
Hi gang.
I'm working on this vintage Mitsubishi DA-P20 preamp.  It's an interesting old relic from the 80's and was once considered to be fairly high quality.
It has some issues now, not the least of which are failing switchgear and potentiometers, as well as dodgy connectors.

I've been doing a bit of circuit upgrading, and noticed that in the head-amp and phono section there are a number of electrolytics in the audio path.  These look fairly generic, and are mid value.
Specifically C-101 and C-102 (150uF/16v) as well as C-104 and C-105 (220uF/16v) and in the phono amp C-143 (22 uF/10v)

Should these be bypassed with some high quality film caps, or replaced altogether?

All comments appreciated.

If in the signal path, replace them. Use the best caps you can afford that will fit the board and match the values. bet it sounds great when you get it restored. :thumb:
