newbie here
« on: 25 Feb 2016, 04:17 am »
Hi!
New to the high end world of audio looking to piece my first system together and this forums cheap and cheerful section has a lot of exactly what I am looking to do. So I figured I'd join, do some research, ask some questions, (hopefully) get some answers, learn to solder, only electrocute myself once or twice, have a good time, and listen to some good music!

Greetings & Welcome to AC nikalis  :thumb:  We strongly encourage members to keep all electrocutions to a minimum.  :D

Even without DIY efforts, it's never been a better time to enter Cheap and Cheerful audio.  Technology and internet knowledge/competition have combined to provide very good sound quality options at inflation adjusted extremely low prices.  The advent of home/audiophile friendly active monitors, streaming music sources, and cheap USB DACs makes for easy, compact (desktop or small room) systems.  Off the top of my head example:

Adam F5 active monitors          = $500/pair
Audioquest Dragonfly v1.2 DAC = $150 to use with your existing computer
Blue Jean Interconnects            = $40/pair

Total                                        = $690

Add Spotify for $10/month (8 million songs at less than CD quality) or Tidal for $20/month (over 1 million at CD quality).
