Seems like an abnormal amount - are people not liking these?  When I last auditioned them, they sounded great.

A new audio flavor-of-the-day probably is the culprit.

It doesn't mean that they are bad, or bad value, just that something is probably more enticing out there to owners of them...whether it's price, performance, feature content or prevailing audio philosophy.

I wouldn't know as I haven't heard the MF in action.  A good time to buy them if you liked it at the 'new' price way back, no?

The Scott-Nixon TubeDAC is the natural enemy of the MF TriVista. With the coming El Nino winter, weather conditions are favorable to the TubeDAC, whose expanding range now includes most of the lower 48 States, and the UK.

Seriously, we A-B'd the MF 3.2i DAC and the TubeDAC, and three of us immediately preferred the sound of the minimalist Nixon. People who get these cannot let go of them just on looks alone. Beautiful ABS plastic vs. audio jewellry, I take sound every time.

The TriVista 2.1 is a much better dac than the MF 3.2 you compared the TubeDac to.  Having heard both the Tube Dac + and the MF TriVista 2.1, there is no comparison IMO- the Musical Fidelity is better, but it should be given it's cost.

BTW, before the Nixon faithful claim I'm playing favorites b/c I own the original ack dAck, I shot out the Ack vs. the Tri Vista and the Ack lost in many parameters, with the exception of midrange liquidity and tonal color.

I have also done that comparison, and can concur.  The TubeDAC is not migratory, and therefore you don't see them used on Audiogon very much.  They are stealth, fast, and very fluid creatures.  Their moves are quite analog in nature, and once one happens upon one and spends some time with it, the flavor-of-the-month club is generally ignored as just another wanna be king of the jungle who will inevitably fall prey.

As you can see, TubeDAC's are making friends all over the world.  MF DAC's are more. . well. . . MF'd. . .

MF has a cult following primarily based on Stereopile reviews, quality, and their distictive audio jewelry look. Their problem is that no matter how good a review MF CD player gets, they are only a few issues away from a new MF model that even Anthony M. says "smokes" the prior MF CD player of the month.

I had a great opp to hear a MF (can't remember the model but it was very pricey), Nixon tube, and Ack! in the same system. I personally thought the Nixon and Ack! smoked the MF, especially in the midrange. The MF has more top end air. But I am a non-OS. filterless kind of guy.
