Awww, not Alan Rickman too!
« on: 15 Jan 2016, 04:30 am »
I was very sad to get online tonite and see that Alan Rickman has passed.  He was such a great villain but he was so much more than that!  He had such range!  Having previously just seen him as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and the evil rancher in Quigley Down Under I was really blown away by his turn as the [ghostly] romantic lead in Truly, Madly, Deeply.  And he got a chance to show up some pretty serious comedic chops in Galaxy Quest.  As talented as the man was it was even more impressive as he landed his first movie role while he was in his 40's!

RIP, Mr. Rickman.  You made a huge impact in your time on Earth.

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!   I LOVED the guy!!!  Even in the simple movies like the Napa Valley wine film where he was the Brit who brokered the Paris wine competition in the 70s when the 2 Cali wines beat the French first growths...  He was great even in that..  He always added a certain "prestige" if you will ....  @#%#^@^ing hell, Bowie and now Rickman??   Ronnie James Dio also passed from cancer at 69 a while back.. what the hell is with 69?   Guys , clean up your diets and definitely stop smoking if you do....

Too bad... We need more interesting actors such as him. We're almost being tortured by pretty faced forgetables these days.

'Memorable' is such a great way to describe his presence!  When you saw his name in the credits you knew there was a solid floor of satisfaction that you were guaranteed.  No matter bad a film might be you at least knew you'd enjoy watching him work.  He had such wicked humor about him, or maybe a humorous wickedness.  His villains had an underpinning of humor, of insider insight and charm.  It was fun to hate his villains because he made them so real.  Yet he could radiate such warmth too.

It is weird isn't? I had 11 uncles and aunts, they either lived into their late 80's or they died at 68 or 69. Go figure.

So true.

"Blow Dry" is one of my favorite performances of his (with Natasha Richardson and Rachel Griffiths no less). He was really funny in "Dogma" and hysterical in "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy". Subtly mesmerizing in "Sense and Sensibility". Interesting that he played Hilly Kristal in "CBGB": I think I'll have to watch it just for him.

He will be missed.

Feels to me like he was instrumental in changing how bad guys were usually played.  He brought a new dimension to them.  I enjoyed him in most of what I saw him in.

Yep.  Loved seeing him chew up the scenery in Robin Hood.    :thumb:
