Sorry to hear that. I share the pain as it happened to me years ago and that's why I gave it up after. It sucks as it's one of the most enjoyable things to do but I refuse to go through what I did for recovery again. Learning to walk again isn't fun, be sure to put the effort in when in rehab though. Sadly, it's usually a matter of when not a matter of if you will drop it or get run over. I stick to off-road now.

I just saw the posts of your wreck, you're lucky to have lived through it.
Those cars are a menace. I've had a few close calls this year; every year the drivers get worse if such a thing is possible.

We may all end up on eBikes someday. I guess you could always install a sound system for the motor noise. Let's see, today we'll listen to V&H Short Shots with no baffles, no, I think I'll put on some Termignonis, no, I think I'll go for pea shooters...

tabrink,
I had a few accidents with several of my motorcycles,
most of them only scratches and no real damage on the motorcycle,
except one about 10 years ago on planet Vietnam.
Spent one week at the hospital for foreigners with one minor operation on my cheak bone.
I was never responsible for any of those accidents.

I have owned 15 motorcycles over the last 60 years, and still have one. However, my eBike is my current favorite and gets daily use, both on mountain trails near my country place, and on San Francisco streets. Fortunately, no accidents.

Walking on my own finally today. Off walker and onto cane.
Walking is underrated. It is amazing!
4 months and counting.

Man, that's one scary pic of your wreck. Love bikes but that sort of story gives me real pause in my thoughts of getting out on bike these days. Good recovery man, and yes, walking is a blessing from nature. Heal well.

As Biker Scum 2016 winds down something totally unexpected happened.
On Friday I was on my lunchtime walk with a woman from work and we were talking about the BMW her husband used to have. I told her about the Beemer I had back in the 70s and how much I liked it.
On Saturday I woke up, got some coffee, started practicing the guitar and did a little fooling around on the Internet.
I see an ad from a fellow looking to swap his BMW for a Buell S1 so I dropped him a line and we exchanged emails and pictures throughout Saturday and today.
Today (Sunday) he called up me and we concluded the deal.
I don't know why but this BMW was calling me! It's a 1985 K100 with a Pichler fairing and it was dubbed The Flying Brick as it's a water cooled inline four flopped on it's side. The motor is the shape of a brick, hence the name.
They're real high speed mile eaters, quiet, soft suspension, the perfect machine for my retirement years.
It should be in my mitts in a few weeks. What a way to conclude the year!

I too had a very similar bike, a K-75. Same color and look. A very sweet ride. It was my city bike in SF in the late 1980's. Later moved to the country where it was more at home.
