JPLay or Fidelizer
« on: 9 Dec 2015, 04:32 pm »
I am currently using JRiver and have the option of using Fidelizer and JPLay on my machine. I wanted to find out what most people prefer as providing superior sound quality. This is not intended to start a war  :nono: so I understand that we are passionate about out hobby but be civil  8)

I'm not sure why this is an either or question.

From my understanding, they do different things, and I'm sure some people use them both.

I have used jriver, but am not currently using it.

I have, and sometimes use jplay, depending on what playback software I use.

And Fidelizer is on my list of things I would like to try, just have not used it yet.

I also use Audiophile optimzer, on a windows server 2012 R2 operating system.

As far as I know, from JRiver 20 on, it censors JPlay.
You can’t select it as a output in JRiver.
You can probably find a work-around on the JPlay forum

Fidelizer changes system settings to such an extent that it might cripple JRiver
At least there have been some complains about it on the JRiver forum

I have stayed at JR 19. It works fine. You are correct that starting with 20 they "made it" incompatible.  So I basically can run JRiver with JPLay or Fidelizer. A fellow audiophile is convinced Fidelizer outperforms JPLay but I don't see it.

This really isn't an "or" question.  JPLAY, Fidelizer, AudiophileOptimizer, and even Process Lasso all have different approaches to tweaking hardware and software usage.  I see some use all 4 in their setups.

JPLAY has always been a tweaked audio engine/player that really doesn't tweak Windows other than their dual PC/hibernation feature.  AO only tweaks Windows.  Fidelizer only tweaks Windows, but in some different ways than AO, and the two are compatible.  Process Lasso seems to work by controlling process priority and CPU core usage control.  I use JPLAY, AO, and I'd like to try Process Lasso.

JPLAY is now an audio player on its own with the latest version using Open Home to become a streamer that uses MinimServer as a library manager, and your choice of control point software.    There is no need for Jriver or Foobar to use JPLAY.  The group at JRiver is absolutely bottom of the barrel.  The owner's childish behavior against JPLAY has been ridiculous.  I own Jriver, but I will never use it again.  I refuse to support them in any way.

As a user of AO and JPlay, as well as HQPlayer, and owner of a legacy version of JRiver, I could not agree more with Tjhub's sentiments!  While my personal decision will have no significant impact on JRiver, I refuse to purchase anything more or upgrade with them due to the attitude and positions they have taken!

I purchased Media Center 18 before, upgraded to version 20 once. And now I'm using foobar2000 as main player with JPLAY. I couldn't stand their bad business move. I still keep MC20 license installed for testing with Fidelizer for testing's sake though.

As some people pointed out that Fidelizer might cripple J River, I'd like to make it clear that Fidelizer won't do that. Some people who use Audiophile/Extremist optimization level may have stability issues because they didn't run software through Fidelizer's optimizations but now I solved this issue by letting program running after optimizations behave normally. So all is well now.

BTW, I signed up just to post this. :D
