Guy, I always suggest first time fasters to start with a 1 day fast and then ramp upwards thereafter if desired.

For most this is not a terribly challenging process though, it is not uncommon, for some who are strong sugar (carb) burners, to end up with a headache.

I normally advise to start your fast with your last meal/snack of the day. This way you will sleep through a good portion of the 24 hour timeframe. Ideally, it is best to drink water only but many fasters will endure a challenge if they are coffee/tea drinkers. For those, it is fine if they drink tea/coffee .... provided no sugar or milk/cream is included.

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is key. This helps flush out any toxins in your body. A good target is to consume half your body weight (in pounds) in ounces of water. So, a 200# person would drink 100 ounces of water.

I have plenty of experience and suggestions for you if you wish to engage in a prolonged fast, especially if you wish to experience the additional health benefits of using water fasting to raise ketones in your body.

If you have any questions, just ask and I'll do my best to answer.

Oh, and happy fasting. I strongly believe it will end up being one of the greatest thongs you will ever do for your health.  :thumb:

Hi pneumonic,
thanks for the offer to help me with my (Next) fasting.
By the way, I am always surprised by the name some people give to certain things.
Like to rip a CD, why rip, are you really ripping it, tear it to pieces...
Now fasting, what the origin of the word fasting ? ? ?
I think I will start this coming Monday.
Plenty of mineral or source water,
how about a cup of two of green tea ?
If I feel dizzy or week, I might go for some noodle soup, that's one fith of noodles
and four fith of hot water ? ? ?
Of course I will do my stretching exercise, but maybe multiply by three...
I will do fasting once a week for a month, the I will see...
Thanks again and please feel free to comment and suggest.

Of course I won't tell my (Little overweight Vietnamese) wife,
because she will desagree with me.
She says I am too skinny.

RIP - an acronym for Raster Image Processor, a printing process that takes a vector file or a high-level document file format like Postscript or PDF and converts it to a raster (bitmap) image that a printer can understand.  For some reason it was (erroneously) adopted by the digital audio community to describe extracting and/or converting an optical audio disk into various digital audio file formats.

FAST - from Old English "faestan" and German "fastan" meaning to hold fast or abstain from food.

Thanks a lot Steve for your explanation of those two bizare (To me) words.
It would have taken me lots of research on the web to get the meaning of those two words.

If you are able, don't consume anything but water. Noodles are a definite no-no!

Rather than tea or coffee, I normally suggest carbonated water (ie seltzer, club soda) in moderation.

Don't worry about losing weight on a 1 day water fast.

See your situation here:

The chart is complete garbage in my opinion, as it doesn't take into account muscle mass, bone mass, etc.  Not only that, it's not based on scientific evidence.  It's made up.  Why is 30% obese?  Was there data to indicate that suddenly one became sicker? No.  They simply made that up.

See, eg:

Hi all,
today I did not eat food, I drank lots of water and a big cup of green tea.
In late afternoon with my empty stomach, or should I say:
With my stomach full of water,
I was feeling strange, like I was cold, but with 30C+
I was not cold, but the inside of my body was shaking
like when I am cold
and I was feeling a little dizzy.
Anyway, I did survive.
I intend to do the same next Monday.
I don't expect to see results right away, maybe in one month ?

Guy 13
I did my daily 15 minutes exercices.

The Ketogenic diet is basically the theory behind the Atkin's Diet.  Low carb, high fat and protein which sends you into ketosis.  The problem with a life long ketogenic diet is that it will cause heart disease in the long run as the kids that have epilepsy that is controlled by the ketogenic diet are at much higher risk.

Guy, I am a physician, be careful with drinking too much water while fasting.  You can develop water intoxication which is too much free water that causes hyponatremia (low sodium) due to dilution, which can cause dizziness, weakness, confusion and ultimately seizures and potential death.  I am an Emergency Medicine specialist and have seen this in infants and adults.

Way before Atkins, it was the Banting Diet. Both Banting and Atkins were labeled quacks by the medical community.

Fasting for three days can regenerate entire immune system, study finds

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/03/12/fasting-for-three-days-can-regenerate-entire-immune-system-study/

Yes but for how long is the benefit and why do it if you are already healthy.

3 days too long, even a Samson would faint this long.
