If you had a choice between the classic Pioneer HPM 100 and the JBL L100's which one would you choose and why???  Just can't get enough of these vintage classics...

To be honest, when I think of "classic" speakers, Pioneer doesn't even come up in my brain. I think of AR, KLH, ADVENT, JBL, POLK, EPI and a few others. These American companies had the vast majority of the market share during their heyday. At one time, I heard that AR owned almost the complete market.

I've never heard the Pioneer HPM 100, and I'm not saying they are not any good. But Japanese speakers simply were not the first word in speakers of the time, and they still aren't, IMO.

Hard to beat the JBL L100.....

Back in 1976 I inherited a pair of Pioneer CS-77a speakers with the lattice grill, they had the same size cabinet as the JBL 100.
The Pioneer's got stolen in 1978 when I moved to Tucson and I was relieved because they didn't take my JBL's. The thieves took the crappy sounding fancy looking speakers and ignored the plain looking excellent sounding speakers.

I've never heard the Pioneer HPM 100 either but based on the Pioneer's I had I would pass.
