Its not my favorite tube in the lampis, but let me check my tube stash and see if I have one I can loan ya, Doak.
They run double power, but Glory loved them when he had a G5...
No, I mean the amp rating on those tube is twice that of the 6x5….
Current draw is really a big deal on some of the rectifiers. I have to remember on a small EL84 amp to not use anything with a more than 2.0 amp draw. Otherwise I am stressing the power supply out.

Basically a 5U4G will push the power supply way past where it should be. A 5AR4 is fine. So is a 274B.
Hey Doak, have you tried a Sylvania rectifier yet? I got one from TC tubes for about $20 and it was a worthwhile improvement over the stock RCA i had. My L4 takes a 5Y3 but from what I've read the 6X5 Sylvania is a good one too. Just my 2 cents.
2 different models. The 5Y3 is the single recti build, while the 6x5 build takes 2 tubes, IIRC.
For the Big7 and GG Dac? I dont think so. Lukasz did say that any 5v recti would work and his circuit would compensate for it.
So do you think the Sylvania 6x5 will sound different than the Sylvania 5y3? The Sylvania 5y3 sounds fantastic in my L4 but if you think the Sylvania 6x5 could sound completely different for Doak in his L4 then I'll take back the recommendation. I guess I figured there would be some consistency in sound with the Sylvania's whether its 6x5 or 5y3.
My post references an EL84 amp, not the GG. "I have to remember on a small EL84 amp to not use anything with a more than 2.0 amp draw. Otherwise I am stressing the power supply out. Basically a 5U4G will push the power supply way past where it should be. A 5AR4 is fine. So is a 274B. " I am talking about the EL84 based amp I have sitting in my office. Not the Lampizator. I just wanted to be precise in what we were discussing. I assume his circuit puts 5v on the filament and has a power supply that goes to 2.5A plus. Thus, the Big 7/GG can handle any 5V rectifier that was common and commercially sold. Not every power supply is built as beefy as the lampi's is.
2 different classes of rectis. 6x5 is 2.5v, no? So you need 2 of them. The 5Y3 and many others are 5v rectis (single). Thus you would need (Luaksz) to convert a 2 recti Dac to single recti format or vice-versa.
No, 6X5 is a 6 volt rectifier. It's what it puts out plate current wise that is the issue. The 6X5 has 1/2 of the plate current of the 5Y3. That's why would need more than one--to provide enough current to the circuit. That and I wouldn't want to run a 6 volt tube on 5 volts at the filament unless I needed to.
