I've been playing around with my power supplies on my CAPS Zuma, following a dead Sonore power supply incident, and I've been considering trying to use one of my 5v power supplies (from a Bolder Squeezebox) to power my SSD.
I know that several people have done this, and the wiring can be challenging. But my computer uses a SOtM SATA noise filter, which has two readily identifiable connections (red and black) from the PICO power supply. See photo.
If I just clip those and connect them to my power supply, will that work? Obviously the power will go through the noise filter, which is likely unnecessary, but I don't imagine it's harmful.
I will, of course, start by double checking the output on the Bolder power supply to ensure that it's dead on 5v.
Any risk of frying my SSD? That would suck. I see that Samsung specs it a 5v, +/- 5%.
