Elac's getting closer!
« on: 2 Sep 2015, 03:04 am »
I got on the "pre-order" list with Elac for the new Andrew Jones speakers.  I received an email today that states the speakers will be arriving in the California warehouse by the third week of September!  It's been a long time since I have been as excited about a product as I am for these.  They won't replace my Maggie 1.7's  :) but I am speaker junkie and can't wait to hear these!

That's good to hear.  Let us know when you have them and what you think.

Met Andrew at Newport Cali show, very personable chap and gave a helluva demo.

I wanted a pair of his speakers when I left his room, just based on the perf/dollar value.

Same here, I don't need another pair of speakers, but I am eager to get a pair of these.  AJ is one of the most affable guys in the audio business.

I see them now on Amazon website.  (Debut Series)
The two smaller bookshelf models will be released on Oct 1.

The other models have a different dates next to them.

Sweet! I signed up for the preorder, but never heard back from anyone at Elac.  I just got an automated email saying someone from Elac would contact me.  Did anyone else who signed up for the preorder through the Elac web site ever hear from anyone at Elac?

I have an Amazon Prime account, so if I order a pair through Amazon, I'll get free 2-day shipping.  I'm not sure if it matters, but if Elac also offers free shipping, or pick up through a local dealer, I'd prefer to get them from the source.  Anyone know if the preorder through Elac includes free shipping?

I JUST finished modifying another set of the Pioneer SP-BS22-LRs for a friend and am listening to them now.  I look forward to comparing the new Elac Debut 5's to the modified BS22's.

The last email I got from Elac said the cost of shipping hadn't been decided yet and that somewhere around the third week of Sept they would be receiving the speakers to be ready to ship.

I went ahead today and ordered through Amazon so I could use my account but I noticed it did have a sales tax added and an expected delivery date of Oct 5.

I pre-ordered the F6 from the Elac website also if you could really call it that, however, I didn't receive an email or a release date yet.  Like most of you, I need another set of speakers like a hole in the head but I'm really excited about it after all the hype.  I also plan to purchase the Philharmonic Audio modded Dayton Br-1 sometime in the near future that goes for $195 not including shipping.  I think that's it's great for "Hi End" audio that so many people are talking about a speaker that cost less that $250! Can't Wait!!!

Agreed 100%!  I have two pair of the modified Pioneer SP-BS22-LR's here (with a 3rd pair I finished last night for a friend).  I love them for the value they provide - especially when you pick them up at ridiculous sale prices and do the mods yourself.  So, I don't NEED the Elacs or Dennis Murphy's new version of the Philharmonic Audio Affordable Monitors, but I'll probably buy a set of each to see how they compare to each other and the modified Pioneers.  I'm hoping they will both have more bass.  I generally run the Pioneers with a subwoofer.  Most people I have recommended them to, start without a subwoofer, but eventually add one.  So, that drives up the total system cost (and footprint).  For stereo MUSIC listening, it would be nice of there was something available that sounded at least as good as the Pioneers, but had more bass and still cost less than $250 a pair delivered.  It looks like there may be two such somethings available in the very near future.  I love great sounding affordable gear as it opens the door for many people, young and old, to experience great sounding music in their own homes without breaking the bank.  Growing the hobby/market benefits us all.

I sent an email as the third week of September has come and gone, below is the answer I recieved:

Good morning Kurt,

The first of many containers have arrived at a U.S. Port.  Once we receive the product into inventory, we'll contact you via the method requested and arrange for billing and shipping.  Assuming no customs delays, product will ship the first full week of October.
Thanks for you patience and please contact me with any further questions.

Sincerely,

James Krodel

Just got an email saying the Elac debut speakers may be delayed a week because of Customs wanting to do a secondary screening...  :|

I guess I'll at least find out if Andrew can duplicate what he did at Newport this weekend in Denver.

Thanks for the post Tomy2Tone, I was just going to post the same update.  The email also stated that shipping will be free for those who pre-ordered.

Hmm... I wonder why I never heard a peep back from Elac after I placed my pre-order.  I immediately got an automated email that someone from Elac would be contacting me, but nothing since.  I suppose I can just order them from Amazon as I'll get free shipping with my Amazon Prime account.

What mods do you refer to?

What mods do you refer to?

The Dennis Murphy mods (Vifa tweeter from Parts Express, improved crossover, adding some foam to he inside of the enclosure).  With blessing from Dennis, I wrote up a detailed DIY and posted it right here in the Cheap and Cheerful circle:

If the containers are stuck in US Customs, it may be a while....  US Customs isn't known for their speed! :duh:  I might have to call and tell them to, "Let our speakers go".

Actually, US Customs are VERY fast and easy to deal with.  They process a LOT of stuff and have it down.  In my experience > 99% of all clearance delays are caused by missing, incomplete, or incorrectly completed paperwork.  The courier (FedEx, DHL, etc.) is the one responsible for getting the items cleared through customs, but they rely on the shipper to provide accurate paperwork.  Someone from Elac needs to work with the shipper to supply the missing information (product photo, per unit weight, per unit cost, harmonized tariff code, etc.).  In my experience, once they have the correct information US Customs clears most shipments the same day.

The key is, as soon as you see there is a clearance delay (using your courier's online tracking service), to call your courier and find out the reason for the delay.  They should be in contact with US Customs.  If you wait for US Customs to contact you, that's when you're going to have a long delay - you are one of MANY in the queue.  The key is to be proactive and not wait for customs to tell you what's missing.  Call up your courier and tell them to find out what's going on.  Most of my experience is with FedEx and they are very responsive to calls about clearance delays.  Hopefully, other carriers are as well.
