Oldest redbook in your CD collection

The Redbook CD has been around for over 30 years.

The sound quality of CD's has "improved" through the advances of digital processing in most newer CD players or DACs.

I started my CD collection in the mid 80's, there were some CD's that I had thrashed, but others that I have kept and is still playable.

I am now listening to the Japanese pressing of Billy Joel Greatest Hits Vol I and II, print 1986

Also in my collection is the MFSL Japanese pressing of Alan Parsons I-Robot. I think this was first printed in 1984?
Even the jewel box has the words "Patent Pending" and "8" embossed on the back bottom right corner...

My current system does a wonderful job extracting the bits from these discs, but I'm pretty sure the remasters of the albums would be a huge improvement.

What is the oldest redbook CD (playable) in your collection?

I believe mine were 'Wish You Were Here' and 'One on One' as there were not many CDs available when I got my first CD player - http://www.phaselinearhistory.stereomanuals.com/images/phaselinear_cd-player.jpg

One of the Police's albums from the mid/late 80s.

I remember all CDs came packaged in long carboard boxes.

Let see, 1986… I just started listening to a radio station out of NYC called CD101.9
that was playing contemporary jazz.

I bought a Yamaha CD player at Stereo Warehouse in Valley Stream NY... Went a few blocks
east to a store called “Nobody Beat the Wiz” The first CD I purchased was Anita Baker, Rapture…
Still have it, still play it..

my first cd was grover washington jr.'s "winelight".   bought it when cd players were first introduced, in fact bought the cd before i bought a cd player which at the time the cheapest was $500 (yamaha cd player).

I have this CD, great conducting from Karajan.
One of the best arrangements from waltzes.

That's an interesting question...it might actually be this one, apparently released on August 3rd, 1984. Pre-emphasis encoded on this disc.

And no, not all of the remasters are a "huge improvement".  :D

I bought my first CD player at the Navy Exchange in Rota, Spain in 1985. A Technics SL-P2. They had a very small selection of discs in the store. I remember buying Mötley Crüe "Theatre of Pain" and a greatest hits collection from ELO called "A Perfect World of Music". I traded away the Mötley Crüe album decades ago. Still have the ELO disc - making it my oldest.
