Drive running a high speed, continuously ?
« on: 10 Jun 2015, 04:49 pm »
I think I must have downloaded some JAVA or something like that by mistake and my macmini is acting very slow and the hard drive is running at full speed every time I get on Safari,  any ideas ?

Do any of you use malware or security software ?

Have you tried a recovery from Time Machine?

I have never had the need to do it. But, maybe it's time.

I can't remember if I downloaded that junk 3 or 4 days ago. So, I'll go back a week.

Thanks,

I like starting with the easy stuff first.  :) Good idea to go back far enough to be certain.

I have not yet started using any virus protection on my Macs, but here is a free trial for Kaspersky. http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-home-trials/total-security I've not tried it, but I use it on PCs at work.

Hard drives only run at one speed, maybe you are hearing the fan? This is a pretty handy tool for seeing what's going on:

I have these ads by MACVx that just keep popping up and popping up. I can't stop them, no matter where/what page, they just pop up all over my screen.
