What type of material to use for DIY diffusor?
« on: 1 Oct 2004, 05:38 am »
I'm building a DIY 52" x 80" framed projector screen which will have a 1" deep void on the back side.  The screen is located on a perpendicular wall to my 2-ch set-up, more over exactly where the point of first reflection is.  I would like to fill the void on the back side of my screen with some type of dampening material which would be beneficial to my 2-ch system.  On the opposite wall I also have a very large 48" x 68" painting which I could also do the same thing to.  I otherwise have very hard surfaces throughout the room...hardwood floors, minimal furnishings,etc...

Any ideas what would work?
thx..Chris

Hi Chris, this thread would probably work better in the Acoustics Circle. Would you mind if I moved it there?

I suppose placing some fiberglass ceiling tiles or foam in there would be a good idea.  What's the screen made of?  Does it sound particularly reflective by itself?  My guess is that the screen\absorber combo might reflect real high frequnecies back and absorb lower ones, to a degree.

So I suppose this wouldn't really be so much a "diffusor" as the subject header says, but rather an absorber.  But hey, absorbers in bare, hardwooded areas are always a good thing!
