Hi,

I originally bought this great US made amp from a Korean seller. It had lots of parts upgrades. When it got to the US it needed to have the voltage returned back to the standard 120v. I had this done at a local Ultra-Fi shop, DejaVu on McLean Va. The amp sounds great but had some hum when next to the speakers and no music playing. This is somewhat common with amps the use AC heaters and is not an issue with my 93db speakers. I sold the amp to an AC member with the understanding that the amp might hum, especially on speakers greater than 93db. Unfortunately for us both the chassis showed some stress from shipping probably due to the weight of the large Hammond PS and the stout Sophia OPT's. Rather than putting in a shipping claim the buyer opted to have the chassis reinforced. He added internal bracing and a matching steel bottom plate. The amp looks good except for some slight geometric offset in the rear. From the front it looks like the photos below. Once the chassis was secured however he decided that the hum from the AC filaments was too much for his 96db speakers.

I decided to let him return the amp as I always want my deals to be happy. I still need to sell the amp. A buyer should understand that with speakers more efficent than 93db he may hear hum. Moving to DC filaments might be a good option. If you are a DIY guy, have a good tech, or speakers 93db or less this is a fantastic opportunity given the parts quality and extra tubes. The Sophia 91-03 OPTs alone cost $800 currently. These are the ones used in the well received Sophia amps reviewed by Jeff Day. There are also several hundred dollars worth of tubes, NOS Western Electric coupling caps etc. See original add below.

I also have a pair of low hour Sophia Royal Princess 300B tubes which I will sell separately.

Looking for a solid offer above $800 and will be sold as is. I will cover PayPay but you will cover shipping. Will ship in two boxes and only to the lower US 48. Shipping weight for the amp is about 49 pounds and tube probably 8 pounds.

I should add that the amps sound great with my Omegas. A very sweet and "Technicolor" sound with good detail.

Best,

Paul

Selling my Tube Audio Labs WE91 300B amp. USA based TAL makes custom tube amps based upon well known classic circuits. The web site lists many dozens of Min's builds with his forte being the highly regarded Western Electric 91 circuit. He has a page for each amp he has made. Mine is here  -  http://www.tubeaudiolab.com/id139.html.

The amp uses 300B, 5693(6SJ7) and 5Z3 tubes. It uses oil caps and polypropylene caps in the power supply and Western Electric oils for coupling. It uses Audio Note and Solen caps for cathode bypass. Heaters are AC for their better sonics and so it does have a some hum which is not audible from my listening position with no music playing. AC filaments sound much better than DC. This said I would use the amp with speakers ~93db or less. I found with my Omega 93db speakers it filled my 15x22x9 room very well. At Deja Vu Audio where I recently had it gone over it sounded great in a larger room with some less efficient Harbeths. It does have hum pots for adjusting various output tubes.

The output transformers are the expensive Sophia Electric 91-03's which are used in their highly rated 300B monos. Interstage coupling caps are the fabled NOS Western Electric oils. Power transformer is the hugely over-spec'ed Hammond 378CX which contributes to the ~50 pounds that this amp weighs. Two Hammond chokes are used in the PS. Bottom is open for proper ventilation. The amp also has a delay circuit to allow the heaters to warm up before B+ is sent to the 300B DHT output tubes. This will extend their life. The outputs are 4 and 8 ohms.

Now for the good stuff. I will send the amp with a full complement of tubes plus some extras.

1. Psvane 300B/N mesh plates, gold pins. (Sophia Electric Royal Princess 300B also available)
2. 2 different NOS 5Z3 rectifiers
3. 2 RCA 5693 red metal drivers
4. two pairs of NOS Tung-Sol 6SJ7 GT glass drivers which I think are better than the RCA.

Great sounding rich 300B sound at a price which is probably worth it for the parts alone.

$1395 OBO plus shipping within CONUS (~65 pounds from 20011). I will cover PayPal. (Price now $800)

Will consider a trade for a 2A3 amp.

Best,

Paul

Shown with included PSvane globe 300B's and RCA drivers.

Also shown here with some Sophia Electric Royal Princess 300B tubes (not included in the asking price but available) and included NOS Tungsols.

Two more view with these Valve Art 300B's not included

This is sort of painful given what I have invested in the amp but I need to move it on...
