Hello Wayne,

I'll speak for the SoCal Circle...Sign me up, I'm interested! :)

I've scheduled an Oct 23rd listening session, but if the amps can't make it to me by then, I can always host another session early Nov or early Dec...
I assume these amps use the same ICEpower ASP modules, which feature an on-board power supply, found in the JRDG 201 (500ASP in  ...
The H2O uses the 500A ICE module, which requires an external power supply. The H2O doesn't have any OPamps aboard. It utilizes a fully independent analog power supply, which is very important to it's successful sound.

It isn't proper to post about competing products (especially when they haven't even beeen brought up) inside a manufacturer's circle.

If you want to talk about the H20 amps, I think you should do it in a general circle (such as 2 Channel, Critics, etc...).

George, I guess I don't know how this Circle methedology functions. I read ekovalsky's statement, which I quote above, and noticed an error. I merely corrected the error.

Ecovalsky goes on to say:

"The 301/302 use the ICEpowerA modules which require a separate power supply. JRDG uses very high cost switch-mode units from OPS, feed through a big Plitron toroidal transformer."

Double standard?   :D

Eric isn't associated with the company he is posting about.

Vince (muralman1) is friends with Henry Ho of H2O Audio, not financially connected that I know of.

I can understand that sentiment. Actually, I never have met Henry Ho. He's a one man show, so  far.

Say, how do you do that quotation thing on gray?

To quote somebody else, you can click the quote button in their post

When you do that, you can see how the exact syntax looks.

Sorry about the error.

If the H20 amps use the A rather than the ASP modules, I am even more interested in hearing them.  They would compete directly with the JRDG 302/301 amps rather than the 201/501.

I guess I owe an apology to JayS and Ernest for all the crap I gave them when they bought ICEPowered amps. I can say that Johnny is a HELL of a lot easier to deal with than their supplier.

Dude, don't apologize!  We got to enjoy the amazing sound long before most people here!

By the way, I've heard both types of ICE amps, and the ones with built-in power supplies are very noticably worse sounding than the ones with a properly built external power supply.  But the quality of the PS is VERY important.

Good one Ernest!     Seriously, its really too bad that not everyone has had a positive experience with AR as this amp had great potential to make a bigger impact on the industry.

I've been really happy with my eAR amp and my system has at its peak sounded powerful, dynamic, well balanced and musical -- that's what I've been told by people who have come over (be they lovers of SS or tubes), though of course I am proud and maybe a little biased.  So, I am a believer that ICEpower can sound great.  The JJAZ amps use newer ICEpower modules than the ones in my amp so who knows....

I have nothing to contribute re switching vs linear power supply as I have never heard an ICEpower amp with a switching power supply but I wouldn't rule it out provided the execution were excellent.  Frankly, if sound quality were equal, I'd prefer a switch mode power supply as it would be smaller, lighter and possibly be multi-volt (able to use both 110v or 220v) and therefore better capture scale economies by allowing a manufacturer to sell the exact same model worldwide.

Rant on: Different voltages and different outlet plug shapes drive me crazy!  In my perfect world, we'd have a global standard for all consumer electronics     Rant off.

Oooohh, yes.. Imagine how much smaller manufacturers are struggling because of this. Finding out which outlet plug is legal and usable in different countries is quite the task.

Apart from that any decent transformer should feature the possibility for multiple mains voltages, and the ICEpower ASP modules can indeed run on both 110 and 230V mains by means of moving a jumper or fuse.

Hi Wayne, I don't know where things stand with the auditions, but there are three of us in Milwaukee area who have an interest in auditioning:
me, Earlmarc, and Spectralman. Both Earlmarc and Spectralman own the EA modded version of the Carver ZR1600, while I own the 24 tube Audio Research VT200.

Hello Jerry,

The amps are in Colorado right now. One of the wires from the XLR connector came off the connector to the circuit board and the internal fuse opened up.

I have parts arriving today to replace the connector and some spare fuses. It is a little hard to find 10 amp GMA sized fuses around here. The amps are going to California next week for an audition. After that they may come back to Colorado for another audition.

The week after Christmas is open, if the amps aren't sold by then :D
