JRivers MC19 vs MC20?
« on: 9 Apr 2015, 04:33 am »
any opinions on MC20?  I am running Snow Leopard and MC20 will not work, the latest MC19 works but occasionally crashes.

I will likely set up a new machine that will have either (both) Snow Leopard or Yosemite.

Is MC 20 an imprvement over MC19 or is it still buggy and not worth the effort?

thanks,
lou

I don't think I've had either of them crash, that I recall. Maybe the new machine will be better anyway. I am on 10.8.

I got MC19, mine crashes on occasion too,I think it happens when I click with the mouse around too much.
When playing music,if left alone,it is more stable.
I have been curious with the version 20, but haven't had the need to upgrade yet.I like to hear other people's opinions too.

I found that the MC19 will work with OS10.6.8 and was doing great for a couple of days.

Loaded in one HD with my user files & apps then  I set up a 1T HD in two partitions with OS01.6.8 on one (the other is empty for now).

That was fine for a day or so then crashed, and keeps crashing, can get only a minute or two before it dies. Have run all repair utilities, virus scans etc and all clear but MC19 still crashes bad.

Am back to the HD with user files etc and all is fine?

any ideas????????  please

I've never had them crash but I also have not used them except on Windows 7 Professional (my main PC) and my two (HAL) music servers (both running 8.1, the older one had 8 originally).  I have a MAC G5 Tower that sits in the bedroom (basically as back-up - used it up until about 4-5 years ago as a main computer) but never did any digital audio on it except briefly for my old iPod.  There are threads here - http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=39.0  which lists bug fixes (and I'm sure on their forum there are more threads).

I've run JRMC 20 on OSX 10.8.5 and 10.6.8 without crashes or problems. Some feel JRMC 20 sounds better than 19. Don't recall if 19 had memory play mode, but using that with JRMC 20 improved the sound quality for me.

Yes JRiver 19 did have that feature.  I run it on Windows though and did not notice any differences in audio quality.

I have done a quick comparison of the features of both 19 and 20, what I mean by that is what one offers versus the other on JRiver own Site, and from what I can tell, nothing seems is there to prompt me to upgrade to 20.
Yes 19 offers memory play too,in response to Jarcher,s post above.
In response to Daedalus, first sorry to hear of your troubles, my set up is 2011 macmini running Yosemite, MC19,USB out to Emotiva Stealth DC-1. Before Yosemite, I was on Snow Leopard, too with no trouble, the occasional crush yes, like I said,it only happens when I play around with JRIVER settings, while on play mode.
What macmini you have?.

The wizards at JRiver say there is no improvement in sound quality between 19 & 20, only additional features. I personally don't care about video so I didn't upgrade. Also, I've found MC19 to be stable and robust. Love JRemote.
