Sounds like darn good bang for buck, especially at the $19 sale price!

Do you have a link to get that price?  The price listed on the Target site is $30.  http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1_10/qid=1096339631/ref=sr_1_10/601-0407384-5461748?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00009W44B

"The Gaincard was perhaps my favorite solid-state amplifier of all time, followed by the now discontinued Pass Aleph 3. Both are/were wildly more expensive than the T-amp and also more powerful. I think the T-amp might sound better than both of them"

This can't be true?!

Only fly in the ointment is the lack of headphone out to be used as portable headphone amp.

HOWEVER, with the power somewhere in the 6-15 watt range, do you realize I may be able to hook up my 4G iPod-->Sonic Impact-->AKG K1000 for Portable use???   ????

It sounded like a great compulsive buy...I just saw this thread and ordered one, it should be here in about a week.

It is $30 at the Target website, about $38 after taxes and shipping.

I'd like to give one a try, too.  I'm happy with my Griffin Powerwave, and it does have a headphone jack.  It's supposedly a good 'phone amp, but I don't have any kind of 'phones right now.

The Sonic Impact is sure priced right.

Rob, what kind of setup are you using the powerwave with? Any thoughts on what I can expect from a class T amp?

Nothin' fancy.  My Pwave has a USB input; I use it at my computer.  The cool thing is that the Griffin combines a soundcard with a Tripath module.  I am running a pair of JBL HLS-610's flanking my 19" Samsung monitor (these are the lil' JBLs that Corey Greenberg raved up in Audio Magazine a few years back).  Not a high end system by any means, but superb sound for a PC rig.

The amazing thing about digital amps, in my experience, is the bass.  I previously had these guys hooked up via a 100 wpc reciever, and while the little Pwave won't play as loud, the bass is subjectively better.  Not heavier, mind you, or subjectively louder, but more solid.  In fact, I used to think the bass of the JBLs was a bit soft, but it's stouter than I'd previously thought.  The midrange is also very clean & enticing.

The Griffin was the "digital flavor of the month" a while back.  The T-amp is probably a better value, as it's a lot cheaper (albeit without the benefit of performing as a good soundcard), but in all likelihood they both use the same chip.  I think the power, etc is identical.

Guys,

If you don't want to spend more than $30, the Sonic Impact is the way to go, but if you want to hear what Class T can do if you spend a little more money, get the Teac at www.jandr.com for $99.   :)

Guys,

I've played around with the Sonic Impact and did some mods to it, but even after mods, the stock Teac for $99 is a lot better IMO.

Some guys tried it with the k-1000 on head-fi: no go.  Sounded horrible, reportedly.

Glad to see the professional reviews finally woke up to the small/cheap digital amps.  I've gained respect for 6moons.

Now we need a 50 wpc version with decent volume control, source switching options, and good connectors.
