attenuators between amp and speakers?
« on: 20 Feb 2003, 12:35 am »
Are there any kinds of attenuators I can make (DIY) or buy that would allow me to safely use a higher power amp (around 250 watts) with speakers that rate lower then that?

Also, what is the impedance of most speakers these days? I see this left out in alot of speakers information, and I'm wondering if this is because it is generally 4 ohms, or 8 ohms, or some standard.

Thanks.

As long as you dont turn-up the amp too loud, you will not damage the speakers.

What you are talking about is an L-pad.  They can be had through Parts Express I imagine, but it is a bad idea for anything except some outdoor speakers for the hot-tub.....
