I’m going to use some culinary delights to make an aural illustration.  John Darko of Digital Audio Review uses the taste of food and drink to describe the sound of audio components, and I think it’s a good idea because it’s something a wide variety of people can relate to.

Living where we do, just about anything grows, but among the huge variety of fruit and vegetables that grow here the wine grape is by far the most prominent - this region being world class for it’s wines.  The grapes that attract me are table grapes for eating, and much of what is bought in the grocery store is mediocre at best, and wine grapes are for the most part not a great eating grape.

On my walks I often passed a grape vine growing wild on a bank in the back of a vineyard which did not resemble the grapes they were growing near.  I decided to taste one, and...wow!  Ain’t never tasted a grape like this!  Long story short, we got about 70 pounds of the best grapes I have ever eaten.  I asked different growers to identify them, but no one could, other than saying they were likely an old variety of table grape.  I had the same experience with some heirloom (old variety) tomatoes which made the modern breeds of tomatoes quite lacklustre by comparison.  Even with apples, the old varieties are better IMO.

Discovering Omega speakers was like the above culinary experiences - my music had flavour like I had never experienced from “modern” multiway, low efficiency speakers,
and in reality Omegas are more old school than new.  Also, about six months ago I had the opportunity to hear some 1960's Heathkit AS-101 speakers and they outperformed almost every speaker I've heard, other than Omegas (actually quite a similarity though).

Just like the flavourless heavily hybridized and genetically modified food being sold today, I think many modern speakers suffer from the same problem.  Omega speakers remind me of the home grown, organic, heirloom food my family is privileged to eat.  A totally different taste experience compared to the industrially raised food from the grocery store.

I like your approach to describing speakers. Someday--probably next year thanks to my already having spent $$$$$ on other gear--I'm going to listen to Louis's speakers even if I have to order a pair to do it.

Thanks, and yes it is very beautiful here, and even now (Oct 14) the valley is still predominantly green when I look out over it.

Sounds like you're close to "The Cottages" with the BIG white chair. I'm up in Penticton, but gearing up for a move 6K south to Kaleden. Perhaps some day when the dust settles I can hear your Omegas?

We're north of The Cottages on the opposite side of the valley.
