Finally someone remastered and fixed Chimes at Midnight!!!  I'm not a huge fan of Welles in general, and I thought Citizen Kane and Magnificent Ambersons were just good but not great.  But Chimes at Midnight is freaking awesome.  Basically Welles created a movie centered around a Shakespearean character named Falstaff, who's the 'comic relief' in a bunch of plays which are all connected, from Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V.  Except Welles edits and shapes things so that Falstaff is the star of this movie.

I'd avoided watching this in the past because the picture was sh!tty and the audio was very problematic.  Criterion remastered it this year and has worked a miracle here:

Watched Eddie the Eagle for the second time and enjoyed it just as much the second time around as the first.

I'd insert the image but I'm not figuring out how.

If you have younger children (we have 7 and 10 year old girls) and want a movie for the whole family to watch, this one was great:

Don't know if it was already mentioned, but the new Jumanji was pretty funny.  The wife and I both loved it.

Not one you have to see in the theaters by any means, but worth checking out.

It Follows is a masterwork. It takes everything I like from previous eras of film -- 80s, 90s, early 00s -- and turns it on its head.

I really enjoy all of the work of Tarantino, especially the audio visual scenes. Violent, yes, but not to be taken to serious in my humble opinion.

The Raid.  Over the top action.  Trust me.  If you like martial arts movies, watch it.

Dredd.  Good story, great characters.  Much better than most movies based on comic books.

As far as an action movie it is but The Raid just came out of nowhere and I enjoyed it more because I didn't know what to expect and had never seen anything like that before.

Godzilla Minus One.
The total budget for this movie is less than what a major Hollywood star gets for a movie and this was the best movie I have seen in a theater in a long time.

The Day of The Jackal.  As good as the book.  Very tense, almost gets the audience to root for the villain.  So glad that there was no neat, tidy answer to who the protagonist/antagonist really was.

Did a search and didn't find anyone had mentioned Gunpowder Milkshake. A little surprised WGH didn't review this one back in 2021 when it was released. Not what one would expect from the title. Action, laughs, and lots of eye candy in the form of Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, Carla Gugino, Chloe Coleman, Michelle Yeoh,  Angela Bassett, and Paul Giamatti for balance. No nudity, just lots of bad guys dropping all over the place. Think John Wick at his best, only with female leads.

Grand Slam starring Edward G Robinson, Janet Leigh, Klaus Kinski.

A caper movie with a gut-punch ending.  Worth checking out.

The Five Deadly Venoms: A martial arts movie and murder mystery all in one.

I watched Sisu twice, loved it that much.
And I think there is talk of a sequel to Gunpowder Milkshake.

Gotta ask….Which version?

(I have a preference, but curious about others)
