Dual 1229 turntable
« on: 4 Oct 2014, 08:26 pm »
Have any members out there, had experience with upgrading a Dual 1229 idler drive turntable.
I'm told that they can be made to sound quite good. Has anybody had experience with Doctor Dual
or fixmydual ( http://www.fixmydual.com ).

                                   …………………….. thanks ( fastfred )

I had a 1229 back in the day. I can say it did what it was intended to do, and the tonearm itself wasn't bad at all. But I also remember that the whole drive mechanism was quite noisy, and the platter fairly insubstantial. The upgrade price was quoted as $150 on the website, which means if you pick one of these up for less than $50 it could be worthwhile. But much more than that and I think you may be able to find better elsewhere.

I had a wonderful experience with fixmydual (it's Dave, right?). Great job, great service, great guy. Pricey but I picked up a 1215S along with some other stuff, so "maybe" the TT was "free." In any event, it was my first TT and I was glad to have another, mine being long gone. My daughter loves it. She's 20 and the automatic features are great.

Bill Neumann is the owner of Fix My Dual. One of the finest people you will ever deal with. He has the largest parts inventory in the US for Dual turntables. He builds his own plinths from walnut or oak, and he has smoke colored dustcovers made to his specifications. If anyone is considering buying a Dual turntable, I would highly recommend them to contact Bill. He will take care of you before and after the sell.
