If you're up to the challenge, there's a smokin' Brazilian Jazz record I own by German harmonica maestro, Hendrik Meurkens called 'Sambahia' which has the extra perks of also featuring the amazing Paquito D'Rivera and Claudio Roditi!!  Muerkens has been called the heir to Toots!  On top of being a harp virtuoso, the dude also doubles on vibes, the man's got massive skills!  'Sambahia' is a great record, melodic Brazilian themes and some mighty swingin' featuring some of Brazil's best in the rhythm section.

Little Walter

From Wikipedia:
Music journalist Bill Dahl described Little Walter as "king of all post-war blues harpists", who "took the humble mouth organ in dazzling amplified directions that were unimaginable prior to his ascendancy."[3] His legacy has been enormous: he is widely credited by blues historians as the artist primarily responsible for establishing the standard vocabulary for modern blues and blues rock harmonica players.[2][3] His influence can be heard in varying degrees in virtually every modern blues harp player who came along in his wake, from blues greats such as Junior Wells, James Cotton, George "Harmonica" Smith, Carey Bell, and Big Walter Horton, through modern-day masters Sugar Blue, Billy Branch, Kim Wilson, Rod Piazza, William Clarke, and Charlie Musselwhite, in addition to blues-rock crossover artists such as Paul Butterfield and John Popper of the band Blues Traveler.

+1 Jimmy Reed!

Loves me the Jimmy Reed. Reed was an early influence on Dylan though their harp playing is different.

A strong second for anything William Clarke.
Another favorite modern player of mine is James Harman.
Hendrik Meurkens- Bossa-flavored jazz (fantastic sideman work on Charlie Byrd's "Du Hot Club de Concord")
Rod Piazza
Little Charlie and the Nightcats (start with "All the Way Crazy" and "Shadow of the Blues") Check them out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=yF2jfoAisRQ

You can't "get" 20th century amplified style blues harp without "getting" Little Walter- almost every player out there is influenced by him.

There are just  times in life where you have to step up and deliver the goods.

And if your a harmonarchist and you have a chance to play at Carnegie Hall, here's  how you do it.

Tellyawhat, one of the greatest harmonica players would be none other than Stevie Wonder.  His very 1st hit record, back when he was known as Little Stevie Wonder (over 5 decades ago!), was a wild harp-infused romp called 'Fingertips'.  He's been playing it ever since.  The latest amazing recording of his harp virtuosity can be found on bassist supreme Nathan East's new solo record.  They do an instrumental version of Stevie's tune; 'Overjoyed'.  If you have an Itunes account, treat yourself and buy the tune!  You might wind up buying the whole record, it's pretty good!
