Concerts I Attended
« on: 9 May 2014, 03:21 pm »
Hi Folks,

Thought it might be a nice idea to have a thread that discusses the concerts or live venues we have attended or are planning to attended and our thoughts on same.

Tonight I am going to see the Nylons (a-cappella group) Reunion in a small 800 seat theater in Oshawa Ontario.

The Nylons - are they still around! I still have their records from the early 80's (they are my sisters being stored at my place).   I recall seeing Moxy Fruvous at the Danforth Music Hall (Toronto) in the mid 90's and they did their last song (war song) totally acappella with no mics, amps speakers and it was an experience.  I will be attendig the Michael Buble concert at the Air Canada Centre (ACC) June 28, 2014.   Also at the ACC I saw Barbara Streisand in 2012.  I've been to most mid sized to large venues in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) since the 80s many of which are now defunct including
- Canadian National Exhibtion Grandstand
- Ontario Place Forum (I remember a Bryston ad or article showing Ontario Place Forum's rack of Bryston amps)
- Maple Leaf Gardens
- Skydome now Rogers Centre
- Kingswood music theatre (Canada's wonderland)
- Massey Hall
- Roy Thompson Hall aka  the new Massey Hall

I dropped into The Heritage Grill in new west  a few evenings ago.  Trio : consisting drums, keyboard and a left handed bass. They sounded wonderful in the small room. They played jazz standards and i recognized all of the tunes ( they list to Tonic on CBC)
I asked them why the did not play jazz from female singer's  and they reply was "they are staring out.
) made 'field note's   1) record something to a CD
                                  keep your dream alive
video themselves and join social media
              i was young once

Phil Collins; Michael Jackson; Sting (2); Kitaro (2); Ravi Shankar; David Sanborn (2); Al Jareau & D.Sanborn; Sadao Watanabe (2); Kenny G (2); George Benson (2); Michael Franks; James Ingram; Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, & Thelonious Monk Jr.; Jon Faddis & others I can't remember; Jose Carreras; Three Tenors: Carrreras, Domingo, Pavarotti (in S.Korea); Murray Perahia (in the US); Cho-Liang Lin; Ryu Koto; Dmitry Sitkovetsky

I just picked up floor seats a couple weeks ago for the Paul McCartney's Out There tour in August.

Probably my most memorable concerts would either be the Boston Pops at Tanglewood or the Ramon's with Husker Du playing a small venue at Williams College.

The most memorable concert I attended was at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. $2 bucks to get in to see Cat's. At 12:30 AM Bruce Springsteen comes out with all of the East Street Band and plays for 1 1/2 hours. Most of the songs were covers......a lot of  Credence Clearwater Revival. Bonjovi ( not famous yet) was there along with Springsteen's first wife. Maybe 200 people for it was a Sunday night.

Most memorable for me: 1. Elvis Presley (1970)  2. Elton John (~1974)  3. Linda Ronstadt (~1975).  Many others over the years and I am holding tickets to The Black Keys in November and Fleetwood Mac in December.

I was a young adult in the late 1960's-70's. I saw most of the rock bands of the period. The best one was Robin Trower at a nightclub in Portland Oregon. They had played a medium sized venue there the night before and had another one scheduled a day or two later in Seattle. So, imagine 50 folks sitting at small tables about a average of 10-15 feet away from the small stage. The band came out and simply blew us away. I still get goose bumps thinking about that show.

Just saw Chris Botti at the VETS in Providence, RI last night.  Incredible musician, great band, outstanding performers, and great acoustics.  Volume level was just right.

It reminded me just how much BETTER live music sounds over recorded playback systems.  Although playback rigs have come a lone way, not sure it will ever approach live music.

Saw the stones 10 + times the last one being Philly of current Grrrr tour. Best part my son got $85 tickets which were pot luck. Of course we got the worst seats possible. About 1/2 hour before the start of the show a Stone's representative came around and upgraded us to floor seats. :thumb:
