Wright WPA 3.5 2a3 monoblocks SOLD

I decided to put on sale my cherished pair of Wright Sound Company WPA 3.5 monoblocks. I would not sell them but life's reality necessitates I sell some of my gear.

These are one of the best 2a3 amps I've heard with Magnequest TFA-204 output transformers. They are unique in their topology. Speaker impedance is selectable at 4, 8 or 16 ohms.

Throughout my ownership of these amps I continued upgrading parts and components. All the stock resistors were replaced with Kiwame, Dale, TKD C2, and Mills MRA. All the capacitors were also replaced: Power section - Jensen 22uf, JJ 100uf main filter cap, ROE Gold in both cathodes, coupling cap - Mundorf Supreme.

Hum balancing pots were added using Vishay 50 ohm precision multi-turn pots and Mills padding resistors - the amps are absolutely hum free on my 92db speakers.

Stock binding posts were replaced with pure copper ones.

Stock feet replaced with high quality aluminum ones.

Bottom cover plate damped with DynaMat.

Original Hammond power transformers were replaced with modern versions of Hammonds with 125V primaries. Late George Wright used off the shelf components, including Hammond transformers with 115V primaries that resulted in elevated voltage levels (6.3V filaments were measuring 7.2V, 2.5V measured almost 3V, etc.), mechanical buzz, excess heat and, I suspect, saturation of power transformer core. To drop voltages to required levels George used a couple of dropping resistors after the rectifier tube. Replacing old transformers with modern ones allowed for removal of those resistors and lowering DCR of power supply which resulted in much better bass response and better dynamics and detail.

Power transformers and 2a3 sockets are mounted on rubber washers to reduce mechanical interference.

2.5V filament transformer primary (115V) is connected to 117V primary tap (in a bucking fashion) of the power transformer allowing for precise 2.5V reading on 2a3 filaments.

Stock power "zip" cords were replaced with high quality grounded power cables to meet today's safety standards. Stock power switches were replaced with smoother action ones. I felt that the stock power switch mechanical operation was sending mechanical shock waves through the amp :-)

Listing includes Shuguang 2a3, CV181-Z "treasure" signal tubes (they were as good as Tung Sol round plates), Phillips JAN 5Y3WGTA rectifiers, and a pair of stock Sovtek 2a3 (virtually unused).

$1200 plus actual shipping costs, PayPal add 3%.

I also have a matching Aikido tube preamp with remote that sounds great with these amps and would make a great combo.
