Stereo 5- Didn't mean to insult you, just bristled a bit when you tried to draw sweeping conclusions about VSA service over a single experience.  Much like gammajoe, I truly value the exceptional VSA service.

Jackman - typical cheap-shot - I attacked no one - find another thread.

Hello Stereo5,

Last week we were swamped with several hundred phone calls and emails related to our new speaker models. We're also finishing over a $1mil of products for our overseas markets. I realize that is not a good enough reason to get behind on emails so we're looking for two more Customer Service reps. Finding qualified applicants has been the problem. There are only four office personnel thst are attempting to handle 50-60 calls and emails per day, per service rep.
We have received your email and are working on a solution to enable you to repair the damage created by the seller. If Leif did not contact you on Friday, he will reply on Monday April 7.  It's quite easy to repair the broken nubs.  You haven't mentioned if you have heard the VR-33's, how do you like them? We hope they will please you as much as our 4,000+ customers so far!
Happy Listening,
Albert Von Schweikert

Albert.....Thank you so much for taking time out of your very busy schedule to answer me personally.  I am glad there is an easy solution to my problem.  I am still getting used to the speakers but so far, I am liking what I hear.  I still need to tweak the speaker positions a bit but I love the mids and highs!  The mids are right on and the highs are very smooth without sounding etched.  I
am still not sure of the bass and that is why I need to tweak the positions a bit.  Thank you again and I look forward to hearing from one of your associates.

Earlier this evening, after I wrote this, I listened to Santana's Greatest Hits on cd.  I moved the left speaker a bit more to the left which is more away from the window and the bass deepened and got tighter.  It's sounding much, much better now and I was truly amazed at the dynamic range of the speakers.

Hello Stereo5,

I am the Production Manager at VSA.  As per our phone conversation over a week ago, you asked if it was possible to purchase a new top cap for the speaker.  I told you yes.  You asked me how to fix what you did to the existing top cap since you added metal pins and used super glue.  You told me you were going to do your best to remove what you did and get back to me to let me know if you were going to need a new fabric sock along with the new top cap.  We are here to assist you, but we need to know what you need in order to do that.  Please let us know how we can further assist you in this matter.

Best regards,

Leif

I'm sorry but you are mistaken.  I never called VSA and never spoke to anyone.  I have sent 4 email messages, but NEVER called.  All I want is a price on the top in Steinway Piano Black.  Also, do you know how I can remove the top since it is superglued in place?

I repeat, I NEVER called VSA because my phone is out of minutes.  You either read my email and thought I called, or you have me mistaken for someone else!!

Wow..........what are the chances of 2 people buying used VR-33's and inserting metal pins and super gluing the top caps on.  I will email you the cost of the new top cap.

lol, lol.  That, is always my bad luck!!  Now I see why I wasn't contacted via email, VSA thought I spoke on the phone with them....Too funny.

Do you or anyone on this board how I can get the parts unglued?  There is about a 1/4 inch gap between the top plate and top of speaker.  I know acetone will dissolve the super glue, or at least soften it up enough so I can remove it.  I am thinking of soaking a q tip and apply the acetone to the 4 dowels.  I hope it will soften up the super glue enough so that I can separate the parts.  I am worried about discoloring the grill so I was thinking of putting an old towel around the top part of the grill.  Does this sound like I am on the right track?

I will need the 4 female plastic pieces on the top of the unfinished part of the speaker as well.  The picture shows the gap.  Please advise.

As you basically won't need the "scrap" top plate anymore, why not just saw thru it, so you can get acetone and leverage applied to ideal places? It may be messy, but messes clean up ; Ruined grills, not so much.

If use heat to soften the glue and then try to use a thin piece if metal to pry the top off. Actually, I'd learn to live with it but if you have to fix it try my suggestion. Maybe hammer a thin piece if metal in the gap or a piece of wood to pry the top loose.

Too much with for me and it might create additional problems. I would just leave it alone.

Or better yet, as it looks like the edges of the top plate overhang the body of the speaker, you could probably just place a piece of wood under the corner then hammer it upward with a rubber mallet. I bet just a few good smacks would pop it right off with minimal fuss or risk of damage to the grills. To make things a little easier, you might even try laying the speaker down so you can get a better angle with the mallet rather than trying to swing upward with it. Plus you don't have to worry about the top plate flying up and hitting you or anyone nearby.......which would be Audiophile's Funniest Home Videos material.

That would be just my luck.  Thank you gentlemen, I think in light of everything I will leave the speaker alone.  My trying to fix it would most likely make things worse.

I build furniture for fun.  Are you sure of the type of glue that was used?  Every glue has a different solvent and you have to use the right one.  You also need to know where the glue was put in order to get the solvent in there.  Yes, loosening the glue and then gently prying it up will be the only way for most glues and then you'll need to clean up the mess to get a clean surface to start all over again.  I'd worry about breaking off a chunk of the cabinet and ruining the sock.  I'll be interested to hear what the company recommends as they build them and will know best.  Good luck and please let us know.

I used super glue gel.  After gluing the parts together, I placed a 40 pound piece of granite on top of the speaker (with a towel under it of course).  You can lift the speaker by the top cap and it doesn't budge!  That's why I think I need to leave it as is.  VSA said if I pry the pieces apart and ruin the raw speaker top, to fill it in with wood dough.   Seems like too much work and if you are more than a foot away from the speaker, you can't see the gap.   I guess that's the consequence for buying the speakers used.
