Why we miss Rodney Dangerfield
« on: 27 Mar 2014, 10:29 pm »

"My wife only has sex with me for a purpose. Last night she used me to time an egg."

"I went to a massage parlor. It was self-service."

"I was making love to this girl, and when she started crying, I said 'Are you going to hate yourself in the morning?' She said 'No, I hate myself now.'"

"My wife is such a bad cook, if we leave dental floss in the kitchen the roaches hang themselves."

"My wife likes to talk to me during sex. Last night she called me from a hotel."

"I was such an ugly kid! When I played in the sandbox the cat kept covering me up."

"I could tell my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio."

"When I was born, the doctor came into the waiting room and said to my father, 'I'm sorry. We did everything we could but he pulled through anyway.'"

Once when I was lost, I saw a policeman and asked him to help me find my parents. 'I said to him, 'Do you think we'll ever find them?' He said, 'I don't know kid. There's so many places they can hide.'"

I've got more of his lines, and I'm sure some of you do also...

"My wife likes to have sex in the back seat of our car... with me driving!"

"My wife says our kid is spoiled, I said nah... a lot of kids smell like that!"

"My wife said take out the garbage... I said you cooked it, you take it out!"

"I get no respect, in high school I shared my locker with a mop!"

"I went to the doctor. He told me he thought I was crazy. I said I want a second opinion. He said ok, you're ugly too!"

He's in fine form here on Johnny Carson, but he absolutely cannot sit still for the chat!

My favorite of all time stand ups, and his movies like Easy Money and Back To School were vintage Rodney.
I miss him. His wife keeps a jar of his sweat in her refrigerator and she launched the site http://www.rodney.com/
that is a great catalog of his work. Check it out if you have time.

"My wife is so dumb it takes her an hour and a half to watch 60 Minutes"

"Her great uncle was so dumb during the Civil War he fought for the West"

"I tell you she was so fat she left a ring around Detroit"

"She was so fat that when she asked the driver why he hit her he replied
I didn't think I had enough gas to go around you"

Apparently, according his autobiography "It's Not Easy Bein' Me" he did in fact have a very rough childhood, and many of the jokes about it in his routines were hardly exaggerations at all.

"Bring us a pitcher of beer every seven minutes until somebody passes out. And then bring one every ten minutes."

I miss him, too.
Here's to you, Rodney

I really like Rodney....sort of. I think he's really funny when he's G-rated, like the above jokes.

Years ago, I bought a DVD of his...uncensored. He cussed, insulted and constantly dropped the F-bomb. The jokes were very crude. I didn't think it was funny at all. (Not that I'm a prude, I saw Sam Kinison live being his "normal" cussing, attacking jokes and I thought they were hilarious.)

I loved Rodney normal broadcast TV routines. They were really funny.

I agree with the G-rating comment. I kind of got soured of him after watching Natural Born Killers.

The dinner scene in "Natural Born Killers" was off-putting, I'll admit. And Rodney wrote most of his lines for that scene. But that was acting, not necessarily the man in real life.
