Tempest input and options
« on: 17 Aug 2004, 12:26 pm »
Hi,
How many line inputs are there for the tempest?
I don't have a record turntable, so can the phono input
be converted to a line input?

I think there is a home theater bypass option.
Does this option use-up one of the line inputs?

Thanks for the info

The SELECTOR KNOB offers the following:
Auxilary
Tuner
CD
Phono

There is a second knob labeled MONITOR
This is the tape loop function.

I don't know if another input can be substituted for the phono section but I would think Klaus could do it.

The H/T bypass option does demand one of the SELECTOR KNOB postions.
To engage the H/T bypass on my Tempest I move the selector knob to Auxilary.

I also opted for a second pair of outputs on my Tempest.  I use them for my sub.

Knob configuration:
Big knob on the left - On / Off
Two small knobs in middle - Selector Knob & Monitor Knob
Big knob on the right - Volume

There is also a remote control option which I opted for.  The remote controls volume only but that's all I need.

NOTE:
Since you're considering the Tempest you should be aware that there is no balance control.  Klaus had been to my home prior to my ordering the Tempest and told me I wouldn't miss the balance control.  He was right.

If your setup doesn't allow you to sit directly between the mains the lack of a balance control could be an issue.  Check with Klaus.

For the record - I am very pleased with my Tempest and have no desire to look for something else.

Hope this helps.
Jeff

Wispaton,

3 high-level inputs on the selector + the tape monitor input = 4.

Theoretically, one set of phono jacks could be connected directly to the "phono" position on the selector switch, by lifting one end of each of two resistors and one capacitor off the PCB and installing a jumper wire, per channel.  Don't know whether Klaus would do it on request.  Keep in mind that such a mod might not be wanted by a buyer if you ever decide to sell the unit.
