purchased sony 13 feb. loaded 2500 cd files with help of additional drive. took 9 days then two  days construct  data file.  then wouldn't play with any of sony phne /ipad/Samsung tablet control. slow to work off front panel loads of metadata missing which was ok before. poor support from sony. took it back for refund.   still would like one .  as anyone loaded a lot of files and it worked. found out it only supports 20000 files I have 47000 files.    please let me know if you have full working off remote. remote supplied is rubbish.   it did count down the 45000 files but the buffering sign kept rotating on the screen    cheers ALLAN

I loaded almost 400 G and it only took 24 hours. The trick is to BE PATIENT and let the app finish loading and accessing Gracenote for metadata (which can take a couple of hours with a large transfer.

Also you should use a hard-wired connection even if you will not be using a hardwired Ethernet for normal day to day use. I have a 100 ft ethernet wire I connected during the file transfer. Another trick for folks with large files - load one format at a time - WAV, then AIFF, then DSD, etc. Also you can load only one folder at a time.

When you get a new device you can either try to force it to work YOUR way or learn how it operates and try to use it so that it will operate optimally...

files were perfect  ripped perfect network/hard wired no issues . all files were seen on the drives .etc  400gb  how many albums tracks is that, guess it will be under 20000. seems it wont store over that . let me know when you get there cheers   still have the feeling that it will only store 1000 album.  One tera is too small in todays market   check number of my tracks ,it 49000 .    over 2 tera   thanks

I had the 1tb full and 3tb on an external (4tb drive).  The sony handled it fine. Iphone remote showed all the tracks etc.  the only issue I had was that most of my external consisted of ripped SACD's DSD albums and the sony didn't like finding album art for the non commercial DSD stuff.  That was solved easily enough by going into the album via the iphone, clicking the google album art button, copying photo to iphone, then attach the photo to the album via the iphone remote app.  It also didn't discover the artist on all the DSD's which you just had to edit via the iphone as well. It did find most just not all.  So another words the only issue I had at all was the metadata on non commercial DSD albums, which are known for their metadata issues everywhere.

As for the transfer process.  It did take about 5 days to transfer the external drive.  I plugged one 4tb via USB into the computer, plugged a second 4tb into the sony, let the sony reformat the empty 4tb, plugged both computer and sony into the router.  Then targeted the external harddrive music file and hit go.  Waited the 5 days for it to transfer. Then I can't remember if I turned off the sony to kickstart its next step or if I just let it do its thing, whichever it took about another day for it to complete its process after the transfer.

THANKS  Well that's good news ,pity sony ignored my request for help. looks like the unit was faulty which is why I had refund .still like the idea of music stored without streaming like iam now  did you load all files at the same time or do it in batches  were are you  thanks allan

Would using Ethernet over Power work as well, nearly as well, or about the same as wireless transfer?

Whew. Almost makes me want to try getting a computer / DAC instead.  Put the disc in the drive, add an album, and rip it.
