Oscar awards
« on: 2 Mar 2014, 03:26 am »
I have not seen most of the movies that are on the best of 2013 for an Oscar award. I did see Rush the other night and I'm sure it is not a contender for an Oscar award. But I do have to say it was a very, very entertaining movie. Based on a true story about the 1976 Formula 1 European racing season. If you haven"t seen it I suggest you get a big bag of popcorn and a six pack of your favorite beer and watch it.

                                                     Cheers

I thought Rush was terrific!  Well acted and well written, just an all-around solid movie.  I may have to pick it up on Bluray.

On the topic of the Oscars...If I was tasked with picking the Oscars I would select Her as Best Picture and Joaquin Phoenix as Best Actor.  Probably Dame Judi Dench as Best Actress.

Rush was fantastic, I agree.

Glad to see that Jared Leto won for best supporting actor in Dallas Buyer's Club. He was very impressive and effective in that role.

Thanks for the heads up on Rush, haven't seen it yet.
IMHO the Oscars have become a competition and not necessarily a true representation of the 'best" cinema has to offer.
Last nights winners were predictable and Ellen did a fair job of captaining Hollywood's narcissistic love affair with itself .
Still though, it was fun to watch.  :)

I simply don't go the theater anymore since having mine in our home. i love movies and always watch the oscars, found the show quite entertaining. I do want to see the Dallas Buyers Club for the performances. I tend to wait till the blu-ray hits Redbox and watch then, sometimes will rent on Roku.

I watched Rush this weekend with my sons, big car freaks. We were all blown away by it. It was a much better film than I expected. Amazing how they were able to develop the main characters and their rivalry. It is truly a good film on so many levels and if you like racing, BONUS!.

I finally convinced my daughter to watch True Grit and she actually put her phone down in the last half. Jeff Bridges was amazing, don't remember if he won an oscar or not, but if you have not seen it it is a must. I am a big John Wayne fan but this is a remake that is done so well it is better than the original. The costumes, dialogue and acting is handled perfectly by the Cohen brothers. I have watched it 3 times now, have to buy it.
