Sooo. IPV6 is a likely fix. I know what you mean, I can't often find exact pictures. Poke around, somewhere in the settings for your adapter is the option. Check youtube videos for IPV6, if you can't get to it.

All the aforementioned are good suggestions. And I'm sure Windows Support suggested this already. But in the event this wasn't tried. Well, !!!

First check the Date and time on your computer. I know, I know you're not a dumb shit, but I'm normally not either and last week I had an issue with my PC and after much deliberation I realized my computer Date and Time said April 2007. Out of the blue. Where the heck did that come from? Win 7. Certificates and Permissions can be weird.

Sounds like a possible Java issue. If you haven't already tried this. Roll back to an earlier Java Version. I had to do this one time for my mom to play a certain game. Didn't freeze the PC though. But Internet Exploder can be wonky.
Can't remember how. Go to Oracle/Java support or Google how to do this.

After that? What the hell do I know. I can't even get my audio system where I want it. :duh:

I swear this still sounds like a Permissions thing. If you have Norton, make sure your MS Defender is disabled.
In any protection suite like Norton or MS Defender, you can have exclusions. Websites or search words. Rest those to default.

Edit: Maybe you (involuntarily), or a member of your immediate family hacked your shit. They don't want you to be influenced to spend more money on audio gear. We all need checks and balances. :nono: :)

wilsynet,  I am reluctant to try another browser at this point.  The cure might be worse than the problem. I am sure Chrome would bring its own set of challenges.

Hmmm. I use Chrome, Firefox and IE daily.

Yes, it's hard for me to imagine having a computer without at least two browsers installed, regardless of browser preference.

I'd get someone to look at it. It' not worth the onoing frustration of thinking that the problem is solved only to find out it's not.

It might be ISP problems or computer problems. You could eliminate the former by taking the machine to somewhere that has a known good ISP setup (e.g. a friend's house). If you still have the problem it's the machine, if it goes away then it's in the ISP chain. If it's ISP the first thing I would do is ask to have the modem replaced with a different model.

Good luck.

Despite what others feel about IE, it works for me except for one item which I am trying to fix.  I am comfortable with it and only need to fix one item and then I will be golden.  The relationship needs a little work.  I am not ready to run off into the arms of another fickle lover who will break my heart all over again.

Ok, how about testing your memory?

And right about now, I'm going to act like a ridiculous child.

OMG, don't huff your computer around town just yet. Don't do memory tests because if it was that I promise you'd have other problems. You've already checked for spyware etc, and deleted cookies etc.

Unless your CPU is secretly being taxed, you're probably just running into a fault of how computers work. Internally the average computer these days sort of "shares" all interaction through the CPU and certain channels of possible data flow (bridge chips etc). It's just fine to do so, since the speed of everything these days is so damn fast. However when you run into problems you get easy hang-ups. It seems stupid, because discrete components would avoid this all together, but we don't pay the huge bills for discrete operation. Frankly discrete isn't always better given that in bursts a CPU can do more work than most cheap IC's. However if you have something either infinitely qued or requesting, whatever, it's basically like having your own computer being pinged in the same way Anonymous "hackers" would over-request servers to crash them. It's as if some idiot at a self checkout has decided to change payment options endlessly, holding up the entire line.

IPV6 is known to do this... IPV6 is a protocol for in the future when we run dry on numbers. It's like adding digits onto a zip-code, in a sense. However right now we don't necessarily need it, the support for it is a nuisance currently, and it's a gamble whether the chain of things between you and a server use it or not. There are plenty of devices and people with it on to make up for the slack of those of us smart enough to turn it off. One day, in the future, we'll all be on IPV6 and it'll be fine. Right now switching back and forth between the two causes serious problems, and it's all automated so long as your side allows it.

You know what, call me if you want, PM me for a phone number. I'm sure combined we can dig to the option in your computer.

Salis Audio---PM sent.

I have been on my computer for two hours with no freezing but this is my first visit to Audio Circle today and anticipate freezing when I leave.

FYI, my computer has at least 8MB of RAAM and it has an Intel i7 chip at just under the top speed offered.  I do not think processing power is an issue. I should elaborate that when the computer freezes only IE pages freeze.  If I have E*Trade Pro running (Java) it will not freeze. Same for Team Viewer. They keep on truckin'.  When my computer freezes I have to control+alt+delete>task manager>close task>restore IE pages but not E*TRADE or Team Viewer.

Also, adding a "Favorite" is a guaranteed freeze. Again, freezing is not the blue-screen-of-death.  It is a loss of the ability to navigate or use the mouse.

A Java bug? A few things to try:

See if you have the latest version installed: https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Uninstall any older versions: https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml

And/Or remove all versions of Java to see if IE still freezes.

Then install the latest version.

It appears Don's computer actually has some sorta strange pre-load Windows 7 that just doesn't let you go to the normal places in control panel etc. It's quiet strange, and guides on the Internet are useless because of this factor. Still working on a solution.

I only have one version of Java, the latest one.  It was installed post onset of my issues.

I loaded FireFox.  Is there a way to change the font size?  I used it years ago on an XP computer and I remember being able to change the font size and make other changes to the display.  If there is a way to change size it sucks that it is not easier to find. I have been all over the FF I just installed and cannot find it.  The displayed size is much too small. I use IE at 150% on my monitor and it works great.

Wit many browsers, Firefox included, you can typically change the size of font on webpages by holding down the control key and pressing the = or - key.

Windows font size can be changed through the display option of the Windows control panel.

BTW if you can't access the control panel on your machine you have an issue of either having malware or a software bug. If you Google "can't access control panel windows 7" you'll see a bunch of hits from folks with similar woes.

You can go into control panel, but it lacks multiple things to do with networking (you can't get to where you turn off IPV6 etc).

Have you tried turning off your antivirus program to see if the freezing stops ?
