I am going to be taking either a pair of Paradigm 7se MKII or Dynaco A25 speakers to a vet down in Cape Girardeau sometime in the next two weeks, and he may need a auto or semiautomatic turntable as well. He is running a Harman Kardon AVR 35 receiver, and is using a Crosley faux vintage all in one as his turntable, and Webcor speakers that are shot.

If anyone has an operational low level turntable they could spare, please ring me at 314-651-9396. His manual dexterity is not the best, so an auto with a large paddle control that works well would be optimal. My wife, who is a telehealth nurse at the Jefferson Barracks VA, visited him today as part of the home health outreach team, and told him it was his lucky day.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

I've got one Dave. It's either a Dual 1219 or 1229. I'll have to check. It's in the United Audio wood case with the smoked top. I think I've even got the stacker spindle for it too which should help keep him from having to tend it so often. It works just fine but could stand to be cleaned, oiled and the wood polished. Other than that, it's in fine shape. It does have the usual scuffs on the dust cover but that won't affect the enjoyment he'll get out of it.

It's the least I can do for an old Vet. I have two brothers that served back then. One was in country the other was VN "era".

It will need a cartridge. Anyone else willing to donate maybe an old Shure, Empire or AT that isn't played out? I think I've even got a new stylus for a Shure M9x series I could toss in.

Good Karma all around  :thumb:

Scott and Dave,
I have an Audio Technica ATP2 that came with my PL120 and it has NO hours on it.
I also have a body only for a Shure M91ED if that is a better choice.

Let me know and I'll figure out how to mail it out once the blizzard has subsided.

Great job, guys!   :notworthy:  Anything else the guy needs?  I have gotten rid of most of my excess.  Will he need some LPs?  What genre?  I have a Sony SACD/DVD changer I'll throw in.

Hi Dave and all Audio Circle members.
Sorry to say that I am in Vietnam and I was ready to give a Sony automatic turntable with cartridge, cover, built-in phono pre-amplifier (120V/60Hz) but cannot afford to send it to the USA.
I know, maybe I should not have posted this, but who knows,
maybe someone here could bring it over to the US.
On the other hand, look like some Audio Circle members have better turntables
than mine.
Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'll be visiting in Cape sometime in the next week or two, after all this snow, and I'll try to get some pics. Like many of the in country vets, he is a little fidgety, but I don't know many people who don't like good speakers and a Dual to spin albums.!

Looking back at forty years in the stereo shindig, I actually have never changed a cartridge, set the tracking and azimuth and all that, but us city mice can figure it out, or send it to Scott, Mark.

With Colleen directly working with these vets, there are a lot of opportunities at times for us to jump in. I have been trying to get a large project started for a couple years in the spinal rehab unit, but have been stymied on multiple fronts. I think this might be better, where the spark happens with directly helping individuals.

GAS is a good bunch of folks who have never been shy in helping out. I know I'm looking forward to getting this stereo set up so a brother has some tunes to roll in loud, proud, and reliable fashion.  :thumb:

That works for me. Mark is supposed to be coming over at some point in the future to pick up a crossover I ran across. I can get the cartridge mounted then. It's pretty easy plus given the level of the turntable, a gnats ass alignment is sorta overkill but I'll get her pretty close.

I can't speak for Mark and when he'll make it over. How much breathing room have you got on your visit to Cape?

I have plenty of breathing room, Scott. Colleen is going to get his email from the home health coordinator this week, and I'll email him after I have the TT in hand. I am off Fridays and the weekend, so it will happen on a Fri-Sat-Sun that is convenient for him, and when the roads are clear.

I'll probably make the road trip with Liam, as I'm trying to mold him into a junior stereo tech. I figure it's about time to teach him how to strip and connect speaker wires, and grounding a TT -those kinds of things. Plus he has eyes like a hawk and ears like a bat, so he knows when things aren't right.  :duh:

I talked with Jim, and have a better idea of his wants. He definitely likes the paradigms and dual Tt, and I am going to bring an extra CD player down so he has one.

He asked if we had any singer/songwriter albums from the 60/70s along the lines of Crosby stills Nash, Dylan,
James Taylor, Judy Collins, etc. if someone else would want to help and burn a few CDs, I think it would be easier than chasing albums on short notice.

Tia, and thanks to Scott and mark .

Dave, when you come by to grab the table we can sift through my collection for some vinyl. Lord knows I have tons of doubles that our Vet is more than welcome to. Besides singers and songwriters, if he is looking for something else, I've probably got some. Get some more group names and we should be able to fill a box or two of decent tunes. I really need some room in my shelves so he'll actually be doing me a favor. My vinyl overflow has officially gotten out of hand.  :duh:

I'll get the cartridge mounted and table set up today or in the morning so it will be ready to go. I'm pretty much open weekends from tomorrow on.
