DWM w/o crossover
« on: 30 Nov 2013, 01:33 am »
For some time, I have wanted to try mating a DWM with a ribbon tweeter/midrange. Encouraged by the success story of someone doing it with Quads, I have at long last bought one to try.
I have an active crossover crossing at 350Hz and want to bypass the crossover in the DWM altogether. I unscrewed the back panel and found that the connections to the crossover were obscured by the grill cloth(see attached picture of the back of the panel).  Before I cut it open as a last resort, has someone done it and know a better way to go about it?

If you're going to modify it, you need to cut into it.  There's no such thing as non-invasive surgery for these things.  Don't be timid.  :)

I haven't seen one exposed, but imagine there's a simple low-pass filter feeding the DWM panel.  You'll need to jumper across any series components and lift one leg of any shunted components.  That should give a direct connection to the DWM transducer.
