Yep, I designed the crossover.

I don't recall the tweeter impedance. Seems like it had a minimum dip in the 5.6 to 6 ohm range.

Thats a very smooth looking upper midrange for an inexpensive monitor! :thumb:

I just measured 3 of them, 1 original and 2 that are identical replacements and I get 3.7ohm

im gonna keep an eye on this thread. i think theres a few mini owners that are a little worried about having junk if the tweeters go (me included)

I cant wait to hear from emac about his experience with the changed tweeters (im also ninja, no rez, but havent done the platinum mod on the tweeter yet)

Sorry not to write about these sooner.  When I moved to Northern New England, I misplaced my soldering iron.  Finally found it and put in the new tweeters this past weekend.  Burnt them in some, and definitely an improvement.  The highs seem crisper and the microdynamics are more obvious.  Not a huge difference, but immediately noticeable and for the better.

What are the mids? The graph looks good (purple). What is the purple trace?

The mid-range driver is a little planar magnetic driver. The Purple line is all drivers playing together.

Danny,

I am 2 Drivers away from being able to build a couple of wall hanging 6/7 channel mini's ;)

do you know what i could use, or where i could get 2 of the atohm mid bass drivers?

AND for everyone reading the thread,

Emergency spare planar can be found on Monsoon speakers (MM-700)

http://www.eminent-tech.com/history/eminenthistory.htm

"Modified versions of the Sonigistix transducers can be found in AV123 loudspeakers as well as models from VMPS and others."

i can tell you now, that they do not sound the same ( i have a set of 4 at home) but they will work and install in the stock location and revive a pair of dead speakers. and if you replace left/right you probably wont notice the difference, which was minor. VMPS also used them, I tried twice to buy drivers from them before they went under, and they would not sell the drivers to non VMPS owners. there might be a huge stack of these drivers somewhere if someone can locate VMPS's inventory :)

Infinity EMIT-R tweeter

these suckers are all over ebay.

If you change the baffle shape and size then the crossover will need to be redesigned as well.

If you are starting from scratch anyway then don't kill yourself looking for  the old Atohm woofers. We stock plenty of much better small woofers.

Why oh why Danny do I keep reading your posts! I finally got to a state of being able to leave well enough alone and you post about better woofers. Which of your woofers would be better replacement options than the original ones?

My stock ones work great and aren't broken but I'm curious about what difference might be heard with the new woofs. Also, I'm guessing a new crossover would not be needed  but I figured I'd ask.

Well sure, if you replace a woofer with something very different then you have to redesign the crossover.

If I had a Mini Strata and a woofer went out then I'd try to find an identical Atohm woofer to replace it.

If I had the Sonigistic panels to use in a new design then I wouldn't choose the Atohm woofers to go with it.

The last time I upgraded another set of the VMPS 626R's I kept looking at those ribbon tweeters that had 96db sensitivity and that mid panel that had 93db sensitivity and felt like it sure was a waste to pad them down to that 6" woofer that had only 85db sensitivity.

Take that tweeter and mid and put them over four of my M-130 woofers wired in a series/parallel configuration (back to 8 ohms) and you'd have a speaker with about 92db sensitivity that would sound really good and would be a nice thin tower. It would be a TMWWWW configuration. And the mid plays low enough to reach the extended acoustic centers of the four woofers.

Or  :D  Do the same thing in a WWWWMTMWWWW configuration using my 16 ohm M-130's and have a 95db to 96db sensitivity thin tower design. Hmmmm......The upper ranges would drop to 4 ohms or so, but I might be able to keep it just above the 4 ohm range with a slight amount of inline resistance. That would be quite the speaker.

Add a servo sub or two and hang on.

Got it. I think I misunderstood what you were saying about the woofers so thanks for clarifying.

Only if you use Neo 10's as the mid-bass drivers. The Neo 8's don't play down low enough to make it work.

I meant the same mids as the strata ( I have 4) and a neo 3. would that be a good combo?
