Hhmm.....that's a cool idea.
We'd have to make sure that weird lights casting eerie shadows wouldn't cause nightmares, ya know.

Hi navin and all Audio Circle members.
I like those better than the original idea of the eagle, but that's little me.

The holidays are past us, life is back to normal, Abbie and I are back in the workshop.

As I said a couple weeks ago, "a girl can change her mind".
Well...guess what....she's changed her mind. Again. ;)

We are no longer going with the "mystic" motif. We are using the cranberry color on the entire speaker, with the exception of the back panels.
Those already had a solid coat of dark metallic gray.

So.... We give the entire box a quick sand to rough up the surface to accept the new paint.
After the sanding, she's using a tack rag to remove the dust:

First coat of cranberry:

Since the back panels are already a nice looking coat of metallic charcoal gray, they got a first coat of polyurethane:

In the foreground, the back panels are drying. In the background the cranberry is drying.

Hi Abbie, Bob and all Audio Circle members.
Red is my favorite color, well, cranberry or red, for me it's the same.
Looking forward to see the master piece in their final resting place.

You stumped me on that one. I tried a Google search, and found some references to Zombies and Celin Dion, but....

Zombie - The Cranberries.

Being a DJ at campus bars in the early 90's finally "paid" off...

Love the color combo, looking forward to the final shots, and the happy user!

Wrapping things up....

The Polyurethane is finished. Almost slick as glass. Abbie is shaving the drips off the bottom (where nobody will ever see):

I lay out the drivers, fasteners, and a glass of color matching wine to the work bench while Abs continues to clean up the bottoms:

Installing the drivers:

I lay out the batting while Abs is wiring up the crossover network;

Couldn't resist a close-up action shot of the little gal really getting into her work;

Marking where the feet will be placed. Granted, these won't be using audiophile grade (and audiophile approved) spikes.
We're using rubber (Mom approved) feet instead.

Feet installed. The quarter century old Sony receiver is reintroduced into the workshop and the speakers are wires up for a final test run.

One more shot of the temp system.
Note: There are more than a few areas of my shop that will forever be cranberry. ;)

Abs likes the way the cones move when the bass is turned up;

Gotta dance........

Hi Abbie, Bob and all Audio Circle members.
You've done it again.
You made my day.
As usual great pictures.
I am sure Abbie will go far in life, thanks to his father.
Later in life, she can be a painter, an electrician, a cabinet maker and a dancer.
Did I forget something?

Guy 13

Abbies's clothing even match her speaker's color.

Dear Bob and Abbie,
Thank you so much for allowing me into the work shop. I have really enjoyed watching this project come to fruit.
This has been a joy to see such a lovely young lady having fun getting dirty, learning and producing a pair of
speakers that are audibly and visually awesome. Should I need any wiring done I know who to send it to.
Kudos to you both.

Nice job you two  :thumb:

Abbie,   it's obvious from all the pictures that you really enjoyed  your time in the shop with your dad.  You've learned a lot  in your first project  and should be very proud.  Hope  you  enjoy  your  speakers for years to come  !!  Looking forward to seeing what  you  two tackle next.

Now you  just need to talk  dad into a paty to show those  off  to everyoe   :o

You didn't think we were finished, did you? ;)
How could we go this far without showing you the speakers in the newly remodeled room.

First, a couple photos of the old room. Abbie and her big brother are filling nail holes and touching up the walls before we prime.
Going to take two coats to make that two tone disappear.

The rest of the photos, well...they speak for themselves.

Thanks all for riding along with Abbie and I on the journey.
It's been a lot of fun, I hope you enjoyed the thread. Abbie is LOVING her new music and mini home theater.

Sincerely,
Abbie and Dad.

So very cool.  :thumb:

A cool phoenix picture might look good on that wall over the bed.

What's next, subwoofer build?  8)

Have fun with your new system, Abbie!

Thank you, Bob. :thumb: This has been a wonderful thread and its ending really takes me back - back to when my daughter transitioned out of her little girl room (she'll be 32 in a month). I don't know which is the more heartwarming photo - the one with that so satisfied smile (as mom is assembling the new bed) or the last one with Abbie dancing. I have to admit to being a bit choked up as I type this. Thanks for sharing those cherished moments.

Actually, it made me think even farther back. I couldn't help remembering the exuberance I felt when I assembled my first audio system. :hyper:

BTW, is she studying to be an auto-mechanic as well?

Plus one to kevin360... I wasn't much older than Abbie when I built my first amp.... The pride of being able to look at your system and say, "I built that", is hard to put into words, but very real. Congrats to you both.

The speakers came out great. I think she'll still like them in 10yrs, not sure if that would have been true for the "birds". (2024 preview:"Yeah, they were pretty good for a first build, but these line arrays I just did are sooooo much better...")

Thanks for doing this thread. A good time was had by all.
