My Trans-Fi Salvation rim drive, slate plinth, and Terminator T3Pro linear air bearing arm came in at under $5k brand new, shipped overnight from the manufacturer in the UK. I can't say what are the "best" turntables, but it's the best money I've ever spent on a TT. It definitely plays way beyond it's fighting weight  :thumb:

Why does it have that crazy looking tilt?? And, please explain what seem to be multiple risers between the platter and the LP.

Huh, perhaps just my photography skills. It's absolutely level, I mean really level, trust me

The mat is called a "Resomat", explained further here http://www.trans-fi.com/resomat.htm

Yes used would be fine. Also, I understand some points made here. Kinda trying to get a feel of what some of you analog guys/gals think about the brands and companies you've tried. Yes my price point is under $6K, I would even consider a rebuilt Garrard 301 if it was suggested. I had a Thorens TD320 a long time ago, but it did not have a good tonearm or cartridge.

BTW some of you have some nice systems, and BIG too!

My next suggestion was going to be the Goldmund Reference II for $300K, but I think it's out of production.  Seriously though, you can get a very nice table for your budget.  Does that include a cartridge?

It would help if you had an idea of what you're looking for, your preferences.  Drive system - belt, DD, rim.  Arm - unipivot, conventional gimbaled, linear.

Those who prefer DD and rim tend to think belt drivers sound thick and lack PRaT.  Conversely, some think old DD/rim drivers are rumble boxes and their light weight platters lack depth and authority.  I think the truth lies somewhere in between or not necessarily.  It depends on the individual table and how well it's designed and executed.

You can save a lot of money by getting something used.  If it comes from a reputable dealer it shouldn't be much of a risk.  Stuff like this:

I'm pretty sure the last one is a private sale.  On the other hand I think the Trans-Fi is probably a great table.  Knowledgeable users rave about performance and I think the table can be purchased w/o the arm, if it's not to your liking.  There are lots of other options like Origin Live, VPI Classic, etc.
Have fun.

Hi Wirenut,
Those feet might be hard to source.  If you're looking for an inexpensive replacement, something like this might work:
http://www.parts-express.com/penn-elcom-9145-rubber-cabinet-foot-15-dia-x-15-h--260-7710

If you want to bolt them on - most of those feet have a threaded bolt coming out the top.  At a hardware, determine bolt size (most common is 6mm/standard thread) and buy bolts of appropriate length (around 25 - 50mm).  You might want some nuts and washers to get a secure fit.  Jam nuts go up against the plinth bottom to secure it and prevent wobble.  Of course if you want to spend some money there are all kinds of audiophile feet.

Hi Neo,

I couldn't source the same JVC feet so I bought some new springs from McMaster Carr and I'm epoxying the springs to the plastic mounting disc and feet. The rubber on the old feet that holds the spring in place was shot, no saving it. MaxCast here on AC has the same problem with his JVC table. Just have to epoxy the spring to the foot in the pic and It'll be good to go.....

I had one of those
Magnavox and I think mine had detachable speakers.
Amazing how fun that was and we were satisfied with the sound too.
