New Insigia speaker NS-SP213

Bust Buy has slipped another Insignia model under our noses. The NS-SP213 probably won't create the stir that the previous Insignia speaker did, but its worth checking out. Its priced at only $69.99 a pair. Last week it was on sale for $59.99 a pair.

The specs don't list sensitivity so I'll guess they're around 85dB - 86dB like many speakers of this size, and it does appear to have a small arc shaped port in the front..  The frequency response also doesn't give the deviation but I'll also assume +/- 3dB, and the quoted 80Hz seems realistic rather than over-optimistic like some speaker specs.

At this price, I'm sure some will give them a go as surround speakers and in the process perhaps evaluate them as very modest mains.

It will be interesting if any of the speaker gurus and designers get their hands on a pair of these.

There's one guy on another forum who's already bought and compared them with other inexpensive speakers.

If you don't want to read the whole thing, he says that they're fine for the money but that's all. He gave 'em away.

I bought the speakers - they are nice for what they can do.
Better than some other so-called budget friendly brands.

They do well with instruments - singing voices - sound effects >
however, they tend to sound thin and somewhat nasal, with the
human speaking voice. Due to no artificial bass boom, these will
tend to sound bright to some people - however, they seem to be
voiced to play loud.

They are a good project, if one wants to tweak them and desires
to play with the crossover network.

For one on a real tight budget and who cannot afford the Pioneer
speakers, then they are a decent option.

The Insignia lack in the bass area to my ears, however they have decent mids and a fair amount of detail. Adding a sub may help if you really want to have shaking bass.

I don't mind having a pair for my bedroom rig.
