Bullying in Professional Wrestling
« on: 7 Nov 2013, 12:32 am »
First off, let me say I know very little about that very intense combat sport, professional wrestling. Apparently this is where the top collegiate wrestlers go to get signed , if they are top level. The lesser wrestlers go to MMA for less money.

I watched a couple of matches and I have to say, those guys are absolutely acrobatic in their wrestling- that's how good they are!

They also are very flamboyant dressers, I guess this comes from the amazing cultural diversity the league embraces.

But, this is the part that is serious and needs addressed: After the match two of the gifted wrestlers were invited to an interview with the TV host and another athletic journalist.

What I saw there was something shameful really and I'm very disturbed- my mind is blown a hundred billion ways- the two wrestlers began exchanging very inappropriate threats and and socially abhorrent language. They even began to bully the host and the journalist. They didn't stop with just hurtful words, they began to actually shove and physically abuse them.

This type of bullying should not be tolerated, just as we have learned recently in People magazine and in the NFL.

Mean people suck and something must be done about this shameful behavior.

I intend to write some very firm letters to the people that run this professional league. What about you?

I'm going to write a letter to my congressman.  Not the one who got elected, the other one, the one I voted for.  He has more time on his hands to address this serious issue.

:duh: When this topic came out of the blue, my thoughts were WTF??? Sarcasm on the net is sometimes iffy.
I remember a great aunt that lived to watch her wrestling shows.  Absolutely insisted that they were for real... she also liked a sip of whiskey occasionally. Funny old gal.

BTW, if you haven't seen Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler", you missed a good one.

There are so many pro-wrestlers who have various types of degrees.

Back when my brother and I were kids, we'd watch and learn (enough to be dangerous).  We were nearly the same age and would really go at it with each other.  Judo chops to the adams apple, throwing Lazy Boy recliners got us in trouble.  The last straw was during a college break when he wanted to wrestle (I thought we were way too old by then).  So I put him in a side head lock and wouldn't let go.  He picked me up, stood up, and tried to throw me off.  But I didn't let go, resulting in him getting his skull planted into the floor from the impact of both of us slamming into the floor.  That finally ended my 'professional wrestling' career.

I wasn't going to bring this up but.......I used to be a professional wrestler.
It was a long time ago, lot's of unpleasant memories  of being body slammed, sleeper holds and so on.

Perhaps you might have heard of me..I was known as "The Human Clamp"..

Sorry to say there are no surviving pictures or I would post.
Never wore a boa or pretty dresses. Just a banana hammock and wrestling shoes.
